If someone asked my opinion (which no one has), I'd ask what their expectations and hopes are. If they're looking for an escape from problems or frustrations, that would be a big red flag. If they think "I can live in a hut on the beach and be happy" (which someone posted long ago on the relocation forum), then they need a reality check about what housing is really like.

Like Exit and X mentioned, I'd strongly recommend the moving forum and ask some open ended questions. And I'd highly recommend a visit; not a vacation visit, but a trip to meet as many people as possible and get a sense of job and housing availability.

I think it comes down to the person more than the location. Some people can adapt to any situation. If you are a positive, half-full person, you will be fine. If you don't get frustrated easily and tend to make the best of everything, why not make the move. It's the constant complainers that would never make it on an island. Good luck!
