Oh no! First-timers leaving in a week, lots of questions!
Re: Oh no! First-timers leaving in a week, lots of questions
I am so excited for your trip report to see your first impression of the island! Every bit of advise here was right on target and I hope it made your first trip the ultimate experience. And I truly hope that getting a car let you really appreciate the island for more than just Cruz Bay!! Also excited to see that you are from Chicago. I grew up about 45 miles from the city in Geneva. It used to be the end of the commuter line back in the day but now there are at least two more stops. It's also a favorite destination for weekenders from the city so maybe I'll see you there some day when I'm back home visiting family.

One suggestion is to get a small tripod for your camera. We have one that has adjustable legs that expand out to at most 6 inches, which makes it very convenient to carry. Our first trip, we always seemed to find the overlooks and places that no one else was at. We would get out the tripod and sit on the car, set the timer and were able to get pictures with both of us in the picture.
Our last trip we were with another couple and didn't use the tripod much, but we hiked to Rams Head without the tripod while the other couple stayed a Salt Pond Bay. Luckily a jogger came along and offered to take our picture as I was trying to prop the camera up to take our picture on top of Rams Head.
You will have a blast!
