happy fourth of july from EAST stj

Post by papabou »

thanks to hall passes to my travel buddy and me from our respective wives of 47 yrs , we wish all a happy fourth from windy mamey peak on lovely st john.

we arrived stt at 1:25 today on a full delta nonstop from atl (on time as usual), budget had a jeep wrangler for us, bags faster than normal and pulled out of airport before 2. car barge lot at 2:25 hoping for 2:30 barge, but 10 minutes before cap vic shows up and 3 before we pulled out of red hook. the street as you exit barge dock was lined with cars of folks going to festival. so we avoided cruz bay and took south shore road, stopped by starfish for some steaks to grill on fri evening and adult beverages and still to villas before 4:30. no one in starfish, no one north bound on gift hill rd nor east bound on centerline rd. we were making some good time. seems every one headed to cruz bay and the finale of festival. we passed on crowd and cruz bay festivities and elected to dine early at skinny legs after a long day of travel.

duh! coral bay was closed. tried aqua b and ship wreck too. only activity we saw was 1 guy having a beer at aqua b (he may have brought it with him) and an open door at lillie's market (may have forgotten to close). sooo 1st night on deck with cool ones, rum cocktails and sandwiches and snacks with a view to die for. meanwhile the west end of the island sank about 2 feet from all people enjoying the festival activities. at least we avoided the crowd.

anyone considering beach bar sunday? won't mind putting some faces with viol names. also if you see a couple of old fa*ts wandering around on some the beaches with snorkel gear, me bald and short beard, and a hellava scar on right leg, buddy walking with left lean and full body sun suit when he goes in water, be bold and say hello to papabou and mack. you might be surprised and how wise we are!

cheers, and happy foruth of july!

Welcome back!! As a newbie to Carnival , I wanted to take it all in!! I went downtown and watched the prep for floats and the parade and took tons of pics. I met some nice people that were in the parade. I secured a front row seat at Quiet Mon for the parade for me and a couple friends ( I think possibly the best seats in town- in the shade, near a bathroom, high with the mocks jumbles) , went to dinner at Rhumblines, and watched the fireworks from Friends' balcony suite at Grande Bay! I am exhausted!!! ( but delighted!) :D

leslie, glad you are having some occasions to enjoy your hall pass, though know you are missing hubby, poor soul stuck in fl with all the rain. he too soon come and you can enjoy carnival together next year!

to the masses who will soon be waking up and asking yourselves, "maybe I had too much fun at carnival", remember mack, papabou and those poor souls throughout the world who missed carnival so you could have more room to enjoy!

We just left the Island on Monday, still kicking myself for not staying the rest of the week. It was 12 days of beaches, drinks and fun....far too much fun as we were there for the opening weekend of Carnival. Have a fantastic time and I hope you meet some great people at Beach Bar. We stayed at Grande Bay and were at Beach Bar every single day and most nights. Hugged our favorite bartender, Mike, good bye and actually had tears in my eyes. My liver, however, was cheering...! :D
May you always have a shell in your pocket and sand in your shoes...
If I could just figure out the damn ticker...St. John Vacation June 20-July 5, 2014!

knolmom,

that's a 10-4. views to die for but the sahara dust somewhat limits and breezes have been mighty strong. for our 1st day here today we started at little lameshur, then skinny legs, smoothie stand, maho and now back to villa. I know with kids you'll be north shoring with shade, so i'll keep my eyes open.

enjoy your stay.

Where on Mamey Peak are you staying? We love Mamey Peak and stayed on Bay Rum Breeze in June. Looking forward for further updates.

We were at Little Lameshur today too! Late morning, then lunch at Shipwreck. Decent snorkeling at Lameshur, lots of fish but not great coral. We are hitting North shore tomorrow and leaving on Sunday. Still have to pick up my bracelet at St. John Spice!!

kmom, the ladies sent us off for a full week (lv Thursday) and said if we plan to come back early to call home when we got to atl airport to give them a hour warning so they could clean up for us. hmmm, 2 ways to interpret that.

Diana, we're at viewtiful, she's on mamey pk rd & I believe brb is just up road so you passed vf going to brb. great views (better than summer wind and casa b because you can see all way out coral bay harbor and we also have a pretty good view of whistling cay, mary point, and jost to the north. she's better than 2 guys deserve but not in league with brb, casa b, & summerwind but the last minute rates here gave us a lot of extra spending money since the wives set our budget assuming villa rates would be good bet higher.

for those just getting up on the west side of island, a heavy shower headed your way, but don't worry mon, over in about 5 minutes here on mountain but was interesting watching it come in across bvis.

good day to all.

I'm not sure which house is Viewtiful but the views from up on Mamey Peak are wonderful. Although while we where there the Sahara dust was really bad and so the down-island view wasn't very good. Have fun.
