Does STJ make my fingernails grow faster?

Post by 54b »

No, that's not a joke. While I was on the Rock June 11-19, I seriously noticed that my fingernails were growing at like 3x the rate they do at home. And it wasn't just the fingernails...the hair on my head, facial hair and um, other hair (nose and ears, get your minds out of the gutter, you know who you are) was growing like bamboo in a sauna. One morning last week I announced to the wife that I'd either accidentally snorkeled the Fountain of Youth or I was going through puberty again. She just said, "that's nice, maybe 'teenage' you can actually stay awake past 8pm now." (Yes, that was a low blow to the Libido for those of you reading between the sheets.)

Anyway, has anyone else experienced this physiological phenomenon? Am I actually MORE alive on STJ? If any doctors or nurses or general anatomy buffs read this forum and can tell me why it occurs, please let me know.

Or else I'm going to have to call my Dad and ask him to give me "the talk" again.

Yes. It's true. Your hair and nails do grow much faster in STJ. Even at home your hair and nails grow faster in the summer but on STJ the rate of growth is much faster!

Yes, hair & nails grow much faster on STJ. I make sure I bring nail cutters and hair clippers (anal about "high & tight)". Hair does not grow on already bald spots! betsyv, u funny girl!

Ha! I've definitely noticed that, at least my fingernails. If I forget nail clippers I regret it.

It's a proven fact that you age faster on island...that's why they seem to grow faster.

I was there from June 7 thru 14 and you are exactly correct. Fingernails, toenails, and hair. Maybe it is the sunlight and vitamin D. Maybe it is the lack of stress. Maybe it is the summer time. Maybe something in the water or maybe it is the St. John, St Thomas, St Croix Triangle.

I believe it's a Vitamin D thing. It happens to me whenever I go South and have more time in the sun (not just in STJ). Love it!! This is a good thing.

Ha! I really noticed this too when we were there a few weeks ago, but thought maybe I was going a little nuts or something, or that maybe it might have something to do with rum consumption...

As many of you know, I shaved my head for St Baldricks a foundation for pediatric cancer research and awareness on March16. Since I have been down here eight weeks, my hair has grown quite a bit!! And it's thicker!! And grey( what is that all about?))! I have to cut my nails about every two or three days especially working with kids! Coming from Florida, I think we had a lot of vitamin D but who knows maybe e water is the a fountain of youth!!

It's official, we need to name this abnormal growth phenomenon...if we don't name it, some other tool like Thomas Edison will get credit for it...history is merciless...trust me, I'm in Marketing.

Possible Names Include But Are Not Limited To:

ST. JAUNDICE

TEKTITUS

WADSWORTH'S REVENGE (I warned you to put the Christ of the Caribbean back up on Peace Hill where you found it)

BLUE TENGUE FEVER

MONGOOSE FLU

MAD DONKEY DISEASE

GROOTPANDEMIC

CON-TRUNK-TIVITIS
