A Trip of Firsts...June 1 - June 15 Part 2

Post by psufan »

So, picking the first beach on the first day of vacation is a difficult choice. There are so many to choose from and you want to set the right tone for the rest of your vacation, right? Nah...you just drive and see where it takes you and in our case it took us to beautiful Maho Bay after picking up lunch at Deli Grotto. We didn't take our snorkel gear because we didn't want to dig through our luggage so we just enjoyed the day. Our future son in law isn't one to lime away on a beach. He likes to do things so I came prepared. If you haven't seen a Wabobo ball they are a blast. They bounce and skip on the water. That little ball came with us to every beach and in fact we had to buy a second one because the stitching started to rip on the first one

Highlights from our week with the kids include:

1. A trip to Jost with John Brandy: the water was a bit rough getting there. We wanted to snorkel the Indians but the conditions were a bit "sporty" so we opted to snorkel The Bight. The snorkeling was decent but I wouldn't say it was the best. We did see a lionfish hiding in the coral. We ate lunch at Willy Ts and then headed to White Bay.

Another FIRST,at least for our son...

Never get tired of this view

Made a friend on the beach.

2. Salomon Bay- A FIRST visit - Typically my husband and son go out on a fishing charter and this year was no exception. While they were enjoying their trip the rest of us decided to go to Honeymoon. We drove to Caneel and walked in. When we got to Honeymoon it was quite "crowded". I use that term loosely because we used to vacation in Jersey! So, we decided to hike over to Salomon. We were rewarded with this...

3. Francis Bay - this is one of our absolute favorite beaches. We love it for its "wildness" and natural beauty and this trip it did not disappoint. The snorkeling was really awesome this trip. Saw most of the typical things Francis is noted for. Since I am limited to only 5 attachments per post on Tapatalk I will just show this one....another FIRST.

If you follow the forum you probably saw the picture I posted of an octopus at Francis while we were down there. This is the same one only he had turned almost completely white at this point.

4. Lunch at the Barefoot Cowboy, another FIRST- their BBQ is really excellent and the people working there were super nice. Our lunch was excellent. Between the 5 of us we sampled a good portion of their menu choices and none of us were disappointed.

5. Spending quality time with our family - as kids grow up and develop lives of their own we have come to cherish the moments we get to spend with them and when you can do it in paradise it is even more special. During our week with them we enjoyed cooking at the villa, a great dinner at the Lime Inn, and visits to Gibney, Cinnamon, Francis, Maho, and Salomon Bays. Of course, slurping a few drinks at the Beach Bar and High Tide have to be included here too!

Coming up...a vacation transition, welcoming newbies to the island, another FIRST.

LOVE the octopus shot!

Think we'll try Honeymoon / Salomon again this year. Don't think we visited either last trip....

We love Francis, too... except we felt so much love of the no-see-ums this time (even during the day) that they drove us off the beach. Love can be a tricky thing! Snorkeling wasn't disappointing, though.

Nice octopus shots!

The no-see-ums drove us off the beach the day we saw the octopus. My husband, our future son-in-law and I didn't notice because we were enjoying our snorkel. We must have spent nearly 2 hours in the water that morning. Our son had stayed back at the villa with a migraine. Our daughter came along but had decided to sit this one out ( big mistake!) and by the time we got back to shore she was desperate to leave. We went back twice with our friends, who also fell in love with Francis by the way, and we had no problems at all with the bugs.
