What are you reading?
Re: What are you reading?
I would say Gone Baby Gone would be a first good choice. If he likes it there is a whole series of mysteries featuring the detectives from that novel. I also really liked Mystic River.mindehankins wrote:No, he hasn't! Thank you very much! Will download one of his books and see if he likes it. Any special favorite?
I love that you can find the answer to almost any question on this forum - it's better than google
xislandgirl, I have Call Me Zelda lined up to read next too, for the same reason as you. I think I have purchased every book she has recommended on facebook

Liamsaunt, who is it that you like the recommendations on Facebook.?
Also, is anyone on Goodreads? I have gotten a few recommendations there and am able to keep a list of my reads.

I was referring to Maryanne O'Hara. She is a member of this forum and the author of the lovely book Cascade. You could like her author page on facebook and see her recommendations.beach1 wrote:Liamsaunt, who is it that you like the recommendations on Facebook.?

I did start setting something up on Goodreads but then forgot about it. I should go back and see if they have any good ideas for new things to read. I am starting to compile stuff for my upcoming St. John trip.

Liamsaunt I am "angele" on goodreads. They have a listopia that is handy to peruse for books. Have a wonderful time in St. John !
Re: What are you reading?
Just finished reading "the curious case of the dog in the nighttime". Very interesting told entirely from a boy with Asperger's syndrome. Very interesting insight into how his mind works.
Re: What are you reading?
Just Finished "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks", I really enjoyed the book and thought that it was a very nice blend of the human story, science and history...
A good read I would reccomend. More details here:

A touching and eye opening story, not light reading but fulfilling, I'd say.

Re: What are you reading?
I hadn't read a book in a while that I really enjoyed. However last weekend I was in Boston and stumbled into a used bookstore where I found the book Love Water Memory by an author I had never heard of before: Jennie Shortridge. I am halfway through the book and enjoying very much. It is about a woman who has lost her memory and is trying to piece together who she is. Very different from anything I've read before. Easy read. I am curious to look for other books by this author.
Re: What are you reading?
Recently read Defending Jacob, I forget the author but pretty good read.
Re: What are you reading?
These aren't new books, but I've really gotten into the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I guess you'd call them historical fiction, but there's some romance and some time travel in there too. All I know if that I'm totally absorbed in the story and wind up reading into the wee hours. I just started the third one and I think there's a total of 6 or 7.
Re: What are you reading?
Lindy, I really enjoyed the Outlander books - particularly the first two. I lost a bit of interest during the third book, and have never read the last three (though I own them all). Kinda think it might be time to pick them up again. I do remember I was quite obsessed!
Beach1 - Defending Jacob going on my list...looks good!

Re: What are you reading?
Thought I'd revive this old thread as I put together my reading list for April. Any recent suggestions for super page turners? Nothing dark or gloomy for me. Fun, funny, well written, exciting or all of the above?
Fun fact. I started this thread years ago when my screen name was MarciaMarciaMarcia! Bet it's in the running for one of the longest yet!
Joke thread has it beat!
I have the first- I've heard that Iditarod: A Novel of the Greatest Race on Earth is a great read.

Re: What are you reading?
I'm working on the outlander series too....just can't put them down. However, for my "beach reads" I've been saving the final installments of two trilogies: The Divergent series by Veronica Roth and the Legend series by Marie Lu. Yes, these are teen fiction, and I refuse to be shamed

Re: What are you reading?
I am reading Goldfinch and I hate it! It has no need to be as long and drawn out as it is. I am bored of all the characters and just want it to end which makes me sad. I really enjoyed the characters for the first half but now, I can not stand them!
Re: What are you reading?
Hi all, just finished The Wife, the maid and the mistress which I enjoyed. I am now reading 5 Days at Memorial. It's about one of the hospitals in New Orleans during the aftermath of Katrina. I am really enjoying, but I'm from there. Looking for my next book. Any ideas??
