Is #1 Francis, and is that little dot a turtle head peaking out of the water? It is a really beautiful photo, thanks for sharing!

Great pics...and speaking of rainy days, I may be completely off with this, but I want to say that it seems like STJ gets a pretty good drenching (a week where there's more rain than usual) every year about this time (early May).

That's probably purely anecdotal but I seem to recall one of the locals on the forum having an affectionate name for it.

Who knows, I may be smoking something or just going nuts because we're almost exactly one month from "the Rock!"

Rain or shine, it's always party time.

Much nicer than the dreary foggy view out my window today. Thanks.

I am so sorry for the visitors at this time, but in April or May and again in October or November (as I have written many, many times) we receive our annual cistern filling big rains and usually they "hang around" for 7-10 days.

Most people always answer when the question is posted "how's the weather in May" with "fabulous, blue skies, warm water" (etc) and for 50 of the 60 days that will be true but it sucks if you are here for the 10 days when it is raining.

Not to sound selfish but the locals love it and welcome it as those 7-10 days are what we rely on to be able to do laundry, shower, flush (gross I know) for the next 6 months but we still feel bad

My suggestion is to use those days (hopefully the 7 days will be at the end of your vacation and at the start of someone elses and not all 7 in a row) as your "buying souvenirs" day, walk the dogs at the ACC (they will love you for it) try an appetizer at one restaurant, mains at another and dessert at another (with a beverage for comparison of course) drive the island and take photos of you being silly at each beach getting wet (great memories)

I know they are no substitute for a sunny day but try to have fun - especially if you go walk the dogs they will shower you with kisses and thanks

Good to know, Pia and I bet I read that before...saw you post it on TA right after I posed the question here.

How about Sahara Dust? Has that come into play yet or is that just a June thing?

A rainy day on St. John is still a better place to be than most places. :)

Thanks....if you should see it and remember, please post on the forum.

And I'm sure most of you know what Pia is talking about, but for those that are new and don't, long story simple...sand from Africa gets up in the atmosphere, travels over in the jet stream appearing over certain parts of the Caribbean like STJ making the sky appear hazy. The haze blocks the sun to some extent (though pasty white guys like me burn still easily  ) keeping the water temps lower making it less likely for destructive tropical disturbances, which apparently must not be named ("H"), to develop.

And not to mention a red dusty coating on things, saw this last year in June...
