Are you flying to .......

Post by Pia »

If there are any Peeps that will be soon arriving from the following cities (and then obviously flying back home) ....

LA
Philadelphia
Boston
Buffalo NY
Chicago
Connecticut

PLEASE contact Rhea at the STT Humane Society as we are desperately looking for escorts to transport some puppies/dogs from our island "kill" shelter to new adoptive families in these cities.

It does not cost you anything, you will be met at the airport with the dog, they are then checked in and taken to the plane. Upon arrival at the destination airport you are met by the adoptive family - it is just they can not fly without a passenger who is actually on the plane

If you can help please call ASAP as the heat restriction comes into effect soon and then no animals can fly unless they fit under the seat in front of you.

Thanks everyone - here is the number - 340-643-0796

Does JetBlue allow animals in the cabin? If so, were flying to CT in three weeks.

Thanks for the reminder Pia! I will remember to check in advance for both STT and STJ when we book our next trip. You're an angel :) along with the folks that volunteer to do the transport :) Would love to help sometime!

The Dane County Humane Society, right here in Madison, Wisconsin, would love if you adopted one of their dogs. If you are in the Midwest, no air transport is necessary.

Pete - I totally understand what you are saying (and trust me I want to save them all ) but we are not asking for people to adopt (well we are if they want) we are asking for assistance transporting dogs that have already found their furever home in these cities and we have a very narrow window of opportunity to get them out before the heat restriction hits and, as they are a kill shelter, and severely overpopulated, the future does not look good for a lot of dogs.

With due respect, Pia, I just wish people would act locally when it comes to this issue. There are dogs in shelters just down the street from most of us who need care and love...and who need to be saved.

I am not disagreeing with you BUT all I am doing is putting out a plea for help - so if you are traveling from any of these cities and would like to transport a dog with no cost to you (right or wrong that someone stateside decided to adopt an island dog) please help as the window is closing and I am sure no one could be, or would be, upset about that (especially if you already have your ticket purchased) and I know many people are not aware of the opportunity to help and would be upset if they found out a few days after they flew home that they could have helped save a life - I know I would be.

Pia

ps: I really don't want to use this thread to start, or continue, a discussion on the personal feelings about adopting dogs I would like to keep it purely in the form it was meant to be - simply a message to ask for help if anyone can. Thanks and many thanks to Anthony for not blocking this thread and allowing us locals to spread the word.

Seriously Pia, if you need a cabin escort to Atlanta on Delta, I would be happy to do it in June. We fly out June 24. I know that would be too late for a big dog, but I would be willing to help. I also know that my flying companion Jan, aka Greyhound mom is a serious softy for animals and we could work together to combine luggage to make it so.

Pia, I think this is a wonderful thing that people can do to try and keep a dog from being killed. I will definitely check the next time I plan a trip to the rock to see if there is any way I can help out. Keep up the hard work, those puppies need more people like you!

Thank you capt dan and ruby but so far only the cities listed (and the separate post of new cities added) have adoptive families waiting for dogs but thanks you sooo much for offering (maybe PM me closer to your date and I will find out of any new developments - you never know)

I believe that because of this post (here and on TA) three possibly four dogs have found transportation - it is very much appreciated
