American Craft Beer Week

It's official, this is the week where we celebrate great craft brews. I'll be pouring at the offical Congressional American Craft Beer Week (tm) reception on Capitol Hill tomorrow evening. It's not the islands, but its beer! Hmm, I wonder of they'll get any VI Pale Ale for the reception?

Is your Dad buried at the National Cemetary? When you're in town we can do a happy hour there. We have a very young homebrewer friend at the National Cemetary. We stop by for a beer every once in a while. I used to work next door and I miss my walks through the grounds. That place sure tells a story.

Yes, he is. He was a WWII Silver Star Recipient and it was something he really wanted, to be buried there. So my Mom made it happen by getting the paperwork done ahead of time and so forth. We kind of poo poo'd the whole thing when he used to talk about it but when it all came to pass it was really an incredible experience. A sad day for us but also one of great pride. Our family visits a few times a year in some form. Charlie and I were there last year right before the wedding. Come to think of it, I'm due for a visit.

My uncle is buried there as well. Pilot in the Air Force. 3 tours in Vietnam. Died way too young. I was only 7. He was the coolest and my surrogate dad. I remember fondly the meandering road trips we used to take where he'd somehow find the LONGEST, slowest way to get wherever we were going

aw, that's cute. it's good as a kid to have that "special" adult that isn't your parent, isn't it?

Have you seen the new Air Force Memorial? It is just South of the National Cemetary, very dramatic and visible from the South facing glades.

Rustico is a good spot for beers after a visit there. Send me a note when you're in town next.

Rick - you mean the memorial that my daughter calls the "grass". Everytime we go to the city she says, "are we going to see the grass on the way mom?"
