New to the Forum

Post by CallmeT »

Hi Everyone,
I am finally on the forum :) I have been reading this forum for over a year now and finally decided to become a member. I want to thank you all for your ideas-they have been great. May 2012 was my first trip to St. John and I fell in love with the island instantly. I now know why the friends and family that I traveled with have been to St. John about 7 times. We stayed at Ixora for my first trip. Loved the view and the villa. I am really looking forward to our next trip in May 2014. We are already booked at Coconuts-the villa looks great and has everything we could ask for. Can't wait!!! This trip we will be taking our kids with us who will then be 10,12 & 16. Can't wait for them to experience 2 weeks in paradise with us.
Bye for now...

welcome to the Forum, T! the thing i found really nice is that no question is too silly (or asked too often) -- people here are genuinely not so snarky! (and we all share the same crazy addiction)

Heading to Coconuts at the end of September. If there's anything you need to know about it let me know. I'm sure you already know the owner of Coconuts is a member of the forum and very helpful at that. But sometimes we just need to know those weird little things that you just don't want to trouble the owner with  I don't know what that might be but don't by shy!
Looking forward to getting there myself!

Hi T~

From one newbie to another, just wanted to say glad to see you here! :)

Unlike you, have yet to set foot on STJ....but the family & I are so excited to be planning for our first trip this summer....and already feeling like it may be a place we'll come to love as you have.

You're absolutely right about the wealth of info & ideas you get from forum. As you can tell, haven't posted too much on here (yet), but, like you, have just been "taking it all in".....thanks to all the helpful folks on this board!

Congrats on booking your 2nd trip, too! :D

We are also staying in Coconuts in just a few weeks. I can help you and mbw if you have any questions. Welcome to the forum. I don't post very often but I read it faithfully. Glad you enjoyed your first trip. This will be our 5th trip and can't wait.

My only question is if there is a coffee grinder there. If you or anyone else knows I'd like to hear. Thanks!

MBW: "My only question is if there is a coffee grinder there."

Mais oui! We grind our own coffee daily, and try to leave some nice beans in the freezer, but can't guarantee that they will always be there. FWIW, last year, we also added a waffle iron and a hot air popcorn popper. Despite the fact that savvy forumites have devised effective work-arounds, we recently upgraded the phone service at both Coconuts and Plumeria to include unlimited free calling to the US mainland. A business associate of mine who stayed at Coconuts, and should be tech-savvy, found himself with a $600 roaming bill upon his return, so this seemed like a good idea, likely to reduce both guest outlays and general island phone insecurity. We have added a number of other nice touches as well: a luxurious Sunbrella bead float that you can bring to the beach, a massage table with fitted cotton flannel covers, a motorized screen for the kitchen breakfast bar, a brand-new master bedroom king bed from an overbuy at Caneel, etc. Coconuts and Plumeria are very well documented as St. John villas go, with both details on our villas as well as tips for your stay, so if anyone is interested, send me a PM with your email address (since PM's don't allow attachments), and we will be happy to send you the set.

All the best,

Kevin

Thank you, Kevin. I prefer to grind my own also but not big deal if I need to bring pre-ground. Just like to know ahead of time. There was a time that my profile picture was of a coffee grinder :) Long story! LOL!

Thanks for the additional info as well. REALLY looking forward!
