Leaving tomorrow and want to bring back some Cruzan

Post by ncsupharmacist »

End of the honeymoon is tomorrow :( We had an amazing time!!

Just wondering what is the best way to buy/transport some rum back to the mainland. We are flying back USAir. We haven't bought anything yet but were planning on 3 or 4 750mL bottoms of Cruzan for the family... Can we purchase duty-free at the airport before we leave? And would this need to occur before or after customs? And should we check or carry on?

Thank you!! This forum has been an invaluable tool for the decision-making on our trip!

Buy it after you've gone through TSA check. The liquor store is in the waiting lounge. They'll box it for you and I'm pretty sure you have to carry it on.

Yes, carry on the box they pack up for you in airport, after customs.

So glad you had a great time :)

As the others have said, buy once you are in the terminal and you can carry it on with you. If you buy before you have to check it as luggage as it is (obviously) over the 3oz "rule". You can take 6 bottles each back

The price at the airport seemed high to me. Not worth bothering with it. Seems I remember it being way less in the BVI's. Anyone know if it is cheaper on Tortola? That's where I thought I saw it for less than $10, but maybe I'm delusional

I also had a few friends who just wanted a could little souvenirs so I would buy the baby bottles from St John Spice and put them in my ziplock bag as 3 1/2 ounce products and never once got stopped!

I bought the box of assorted mini bottles at St John Spice to bring back for my son, threw it in my carry on just in it's box and it went through without a problem. I like that little sample box because you get flavors in there that we don't have here. The box was $14

Note to self: Must seek out "assorted mini bottles" on next trip.

We pay $14.99 at home for 750 ML. The bottles in the airport were 11.99 but a full liter so your getting more rum. They box it up and let you carry it right on the plane.

Here's the link in their online store - not that you can buy it online, but at least you'll know what the box looks like when you're there
