Airfare - In Season from NE

Post by jayseadee »

Heading back to St. John next February.

This is the first time we've gone in the height of the season - flying from Boston.

Flights have just become available. Do I buy now or wait?

Any advice from the seasoned high season travelers.

Just bought for next February. Newark to St. Thomas $434. The price was $4 cheaper than I paid this year.
Now I'm in and don't have to worry about price. Just looking forward to the trip.
Best of luck....Al

I would wait until Jet Blue posts their February 2014 rates. I used to book AA as early as I could for high season but Jet Blue has consistently been lower air fare and more non-stops RT. Still plenty of time. I leave out of Bos to STT non-stop in 9 days and bought in Dec at $493 RT. Return flight shows a stop in SJU but lately the plane has filled up in STT and not gone to SJU. You have to be mindful of Feb vacation, so the rates will definitely spike. Good luck,

Keep in mind that if you are flying Jet Blue and the fare drops after you buy, they will issue you the difference in an airfare credit. We flew to Bermuda for "free" last fall using the credits from the fare difference on the six tickets we bought for last summer's group trip.

John bought our tickets on Jet Blue out of Boston for this past January's trip about a month in advance. The Saturday-Saturday fare was really high so we ended up traveling Monday-Monday and I think the ticket was around $450 or so with taxes. (our plane home did stop for refueling in San Juan)
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

JetBlue direct BOS>STT is awesome but to get a good deal you really need to monitor their website and wait for one of their specials. Fares were hovering at $450 for a long time and then they had an unannounced Xmas day sale of $350 that we hopped on for our March trip (travel days: Wed-Tues). The return did re-fuel and pick up a few passengers at San Juan but at least it was the same plane.

Thanks all. AA is reasonable, but will wait for Jet Blue in hopes for getting non-stop. We're planning to travel Thursday - Friday to avoid weekends. I believe we leave in the middle of MA Feb vacation.

Does anyone know how Jet Blue releases their schedules?
How would one get notified, if at all, that new dates are open?

Looking at JB for a non VI trip and really have no clue how they operate.

We like JetBlue!
Sign up for fare alerts... http://promo-app.jetblue.com/profile/signup.cfm
Like JetBlue on Facebook... https://www.facebook.com/JetBlue?fref=ts
Current time table for April... http://www.jetblue.com/p/timetable.pdf
I got a notice recently of the current booking period, but I don't remember the end point date.
Just look for the red socks on the tail. :P

Edited to add: that I usually get emails with special fares on a Tuesday.

Second edit:
From FB... JetBlue Airways " We usually extend our schedules about 6 months in advance. Our TrueBlue members are first to be notified via email. If you aren't a member, sign up to join. It's free!"

One more thought, edited in: We were flying to San Juan last Feb. and decided to add a trip to STJ via STT; JetBlue had a 20% sale that I jumped for, and my total for four flights was $310. Not a bad deal!!!

If you go to JetBlue's website and sign up for e-mail alerts they will inform you of when they are opening dates - I find that the sooner after they open the better fare I get - I got $480 r/t this year for Feb vacay - good luck

I'm signed up for alerts, but never noticed a notification of dates. I keep checking and think my dates will release sometime next month - about 8 months out.
