Car Barge
Car Barge
I have been reading all the posts about the pros and cons of renting on STT or STJ but one portion has not been mentioned. How hard is it to get on to the car barge...I don't mean physically driving on....we were in STT about five years ago and wanted to take our car over to STJ, we lined up to get on and as we were sitting there car after car went past us and were waved on to the car barge while we sat and waited "our turn". We waited as two barges were filled with local and friends while we waited and waited then finally gave up, parked, took the passenger ferry and paid for taxis. So again I ask, how hard is it to get on the car barge? Has the process improved? Anyone else experience the same thing? Thanks.
Re: Car Barge
Wow, I have never had this happen and I have taken the car barge to St John at least 10 times...not much if you are a local but lots for a visitor!
You just park in the line where everyone else is. Some may try to cut you but just keep going with the flow... The line-up is not a straight line but rows of 3 or 4 but it seems pretty obvious when your turn is...at least to me.... I think the hardest part is backing on and getting in the space right without looking like a fool...they like you to be really close to the edge of the ferry...I am sure they sneer at all but the best.
