Grocery store without a car?

Post by LisaMW »

I'm heading down to St. John for my 5th time this summer, and I don't plan to rent a car this time. My dilemma, though, is how will I get to and from Starfish market? I'm going to need to make at least one trip there to stock up. (Dolphin is closer, I know, but I can't always find everything I want there.)

I'm staying near Cruz Bay, and I'm pretty sure it's farther than I will want to walk. Will a taxi drop me off and return later to pick me back up? Has anyone done this before?

Looks like your staying at LH looking at another post. Just walk down to the taxi stand and talk to the drivers. You will certainly get a ride to Starfish. When you're all done shopping, bring your bags down to the street and a taxi goes by very regularly. I've seen shoppers bring a carriage down with their bags.

I never thought of that. That should work just fine, as long as I don't have any ice cream!

Thanks, Kevino!

We have done this on Jost and would imagine they would do it on STJ as well. After all, it's a business and they are trying to make $. It would be silly for them to pass it up. In our experience, the driver gave us his business card with his personal cell # on it, and told us to call when we were ready for pick up. Of course you would need access to a telephone.
