So - a round trip with one bag, $18 per person. $72 for a family of four - that is real money.

Wouldn't it be $22 pp r/t? $7+$4 for the bag each way? I have no problem paying that as an adult but it is a shame the fee for kids will go up so much.

LOL - yes - I messed up the math! I had $22 and changed it... so $88 for 4 round trip.
Math was never my strong suit - but that is embarrassing, I know how to add... :(

Makes the private water taxi cost even more attractive when traveling as a group

This is only for the passenger ferries and not the car barges, correct? I did not see a date (or tentative date) for the increase to take effect.

Given that we are a family of six (possibly seven) coming down this next winter, I wonder whether the private taxi/water taxi makes even more sense than ever. Must look into that...

I didn't see anything in the article about the car barge fee increasing, and thought that might increase the likelihood of people renting their cars on STT as well.

after you top 5 people, it starts to become the difference of a beer or two. Last time we traveled as a group (one year ago) it was $7 more pp to go via Dohms. We would drink more than that at the ferry dock. With our group, saving the luggage fees tips the scale towards the water taxi.

We use Christopher for land (he works in conjunction with dohms) and the fee two weeks ago was $75 for the first 4 people, $15 pp after that, bags included.

My $7pp figure includes the land taxi.

For our group of eight, it was only minimally more to use Christophers/Dohms, and that was at the current rates. Plus, it's fabulous!

We used Dohms/Christopher several years ago and it was wonderful. The dock situations have changed a little bit since we've done this, where do they pull up now, in Cruz Bay?

They drop you at the National Park dock. Your villa greeter will come to the NPS dock to get you.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Ahh, yes, that's where they went before, too. How do we handle the Jeep pick up then? Send one of us up to Conrad and leave the others down at the dock with the luggage and rental agent? Just thinking out loud here.

When with our group, the guys would hop off and head straight to the jeep on foot and come back to pick up the girls.
