We found it while snorkeling in January. It felt very special to come across something this special!

It reads:
Barbara Huizinga 9-11-41 to 11-30-2008 "Mom we miss you and love you. You will be on crazy lady beach with your pink inner tube forever going to St. John."
I got tingles while snorkling this day. What a special find.

To the family of Barbara - she lives on.

It was just out there... nothing anchoring it down... extremely heavy piece of granite. It was quite large although you can't tell from this picture.
What a beautiful tribute. We actually googled the name and found some interesting stuff. It was a fun find!

I just looked at the memorial page. I would encourage you to contact them, send them your photo and give them this link. They would be touched to see that we have recognized her and took the time to learn something about her. She was, after all, a teacher, and she is still teaching us.

It looks like Crazy Lady's Beach is Maho. Where along the beach did you find that?

I thought the reference was to Little Maho and Ethel McCully.
Apparently the plaque is at Maho.

When we first started going to St. John in 1988, there was an elderly St Johnian woman who lived in what appeared to be a mobile home (trailer) directly across from the Maho Pavilion. The land was not overgrown as it is today and she appeared to have quite a lot of land. My family had only one encounter with her and she was screaming at us with a machete in her hand to get off of her property (Maho Beach). My children and nieces would always refer to her as the "crazy lady or machete lady). I wish I had more information on her and her family. She was never physically threatening, just yelling that the beach was her property. I believe she is the reference for "crazy lady beach".

Since Ethel McCully, whom I thought might the the referenced lady, passed away in 1980, I am guessing that she was not the "Crazy Lady" you encountered.

If I may move a little off subject...
I have read Bish Denham's blog for some time... it seems several ladies near Maho Bay were "interesting"!
