Coral Bay villa rentals without treacherous drive
Coral Bay villa rentals without treacherous drive
Hi All,
Planning two trips to St John and because one of them is a family trip, I'm looking for a villa in/near Coral Bay that is either a 2 or 3 bedroom (must sleep 5 people). It must have air conditioning and we specifically don't want a ridiculous drive to the place. In January we stayed at Villa Jumbie just up the hill from Skinny Legs and it was a reasonable drive because it was all paved. I'd like to be slightly higher views but we did like that area. The cost for offseason should be less than 2500/week.
Anyone with thoughts on this, I'd appreciate your help!
Thanks,
Lisa

While not in Coral Bay, have you looked at Sunnyledge? We have stayed here twice and really enjoyed it. When you said it must have AC did you mean the entire home? Sunnyledge has AC in the bedrooms but we never were uncomfortable in the main part of the home because of the constant breeze. You didn't mention if you needed a pool. Sunnyledge does not have a pool. That has not been a priority for us but wasn't certain if it was important to you. The road to Sunnyledge is also the road to access the Maho Camps. It isn't steep but it is bumpy because of the concrete structures installed to prevent the road from getting washed out. Sunnyledge's location makes it an easy drive to Coral Bay as well as the north shore beaches and the view of Francis Bay is priceless.

Wow... that has STUNNING views and the location is fabulous. The funny thing is that we've been going to St John for years and researching houses each year and I don't believe I have ever come across this one.
Thanks for pointing it out to me... my favorite beach is Maho - so this is very close!
Did you book through a home rental agency or direct through the owners? That is REALLy stretching my budget with taxes... not sure we can pull it off with 5 airline tickets!

In the Coral Bay area, we have stayed at Great Turtle villa in Upper Carolina, Island Horizons way above Coral Harbor and Adeste on Seagrape Hill and Periwinkle. Great Turtle was our favorite of all those!!

Re: Sunnyledge. I wouldn't call the road to Maho Bay Camps an easy drive. We drove over that road on our last trip to have dinner at the pavilion. Admittedly we were driving at night, and a little unsure where we were going, but I remember that drive as kind of excruciating. Not scary, just painfully long and bumpy with that on-again-off-again paving scheme so popular in St. John.
It might be a reasonable trade-off for that lovely villa overlooking Francis Bay, of course. But if paved roads is top priority, there are probably better options.
If "steep but paved" is okay with you, I've been told that the road up Bordeaux Mountain is paved almost all the way to Centerline now. It is definitely paved to the cluster of Coral Bay-facing villas where we are going this summer. We're staying at Skyflower, which also appears to have a paved driveway. There are several lovely villas in that general vicinity: Monkey No Climb, One Particular Harbor, Someday Isle, and others. But I haven't actually driven that road yet, so this is all hearsay.
