Underwater camera ~ Experience with the GoPro Hero 3
Hello Forum Friends!
All the details on our trip this summer are coming together...just need to purchase a new underwater camera. Our Canon D10 that took amazing photos in 2010 did not work on our trip last summer.
I have started researching the GoPro Hero 3 and I am leaning towards the Silver Edition. The camera will be purchased primarily for this trip to STJ and a Boy Scout High Adventure Sea Base Trip...used scuba diving and snorkeling for a solid month. After that it will get occassional use biking and ATV riding.
I have 1 friend who has used a GoPro when riding but don't personally know anyone that has used one underwater.
Would love to hear from someone who has had experince with a Go Pro camera!
Thank you...any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Jo

Best choice, I am a PADI diving Instructor & I use it for personal & teaching. It is great, on land or underwater, and can easily have strobes/flashes attache d. Very easy to transfer pics to laptop, smart phone or pad.

Hi Jo!
I have a gopro 3 black primarily for diving but also use for the occasional outdoor activity. If you are going to use it for diving I highly recommend getting the black. The silver is basically the hero2 in a new body. The black has the new processor and sensor (the new technology) which does better in low light (hence for diving) and allows for HD slow motion. If you are only doing snorkeling and outdoor activities, than the silver is fine.
Also, for diving you sould get the SRP dome filter. This is the best color correcting filter for diving.

Thank you equineannie and poidog for your advice! It was helpful.
After poidog's reply, I think I will checkout the GoPro Hero 3 Black a bit more. I was leaning towards the Silver because of a review I came across stating that there were several issues with the Hero 3 Black. I shall dig a little deeper!
Thanks again!

We are leaving tomorrow and my husband will be using his new GoPro Hero 3 silver while snorkeling. We will post our review of the camera when we return. We are avid snorkelers so we should be giving it a good trial!

Thank you Sharon!
I can't wait to hear what you and your husband think about it and how well it works, how easy it is to use and how well the pictures turnout. I hope excellent on all and that you have an awesome trip!
Thanks again!

The black issues are firmware related. Just don't update until they've released a bug free software. It's a new camera so bugs are expected.
I'm on STJ now with my GP3black. Although no diving, I'll have some nice HD vids of the land lots I was looking at on this trip that I can post once I get back and clean up the video.
