New Restaurants

Post by Hawaii »

Hi all - Our family visited STJ in July of 2011 and are returning again this summer. Any new restaurant suggestions would be welcome. On our last trip we went to Skinny's, High Tide (2X), Shipwrecked first and last night - loved it there. Also went to Aqua Bistro. I am probably missing one or two but would like new suggestions. We are a family of four with son who turns 16 in July (Yikes) and daughter 12. Also, don't laugh but are there any air conditioned restaurants or bars? I am thinking no but just wanted to check :) My poor hubby sweats so that is one of the reason we went to high tide twice with the nice breeze but also loved it there too!! Can't wait till summer as the snow falls tonight.

We are also looking to check out Cases BBQ. We like to hit Coral Bay for late lunches after the beach.

Hawaii - I am sure STJ Brewer's place in mongoose junction has AC.

I am pretty sure that Cafe Roma is air conditioned- i only picked up pizza take out there last year but i seem to remember that it wasn't air conditioned years ago but at some point they added it. The Tap Room in Mongoose junction is air conditioned-we had lunch there last year- not sure about dinner but it is probably pub food.

Fatty Crab in Cruz Bay has an air conditioned area in the back. On a warm humid evening they suggested it to us and we were glad to have it :D

If you are staying in Coral Bay be sure to check out the Donkey Diner for breakfast!

Have you been to Jake's in the lumberyard? We went there twice this last trip for breakfast (we stayed in the Cruz Bay area).

The prices are reasonable, friendly staff and yummy food.

I second Donkey diner for breakfast, much better than Jake's (and a lot cooler!!) Jake's is upstairs in town, and noisy by the road and VERY hot and uncomfortable IMO. You can also eat outside under shade at the Donkey Diner and the Bloody Marys and the Donkey Sampler are great! As is their pizza!! Oh, and don't miss Miss Lucy's for Sunday Brunch or full moon dinner!

You can definitely take your kids to the Tap Room. We had our 1 year old grandson there and several young local families were in there with their young kids. It isn't real large but there is also a small outdoor area for eating. I just remembered that we ate there twice- once for lunch and once for dinner- can't remember what the food was but everyone liked it.

Very good suggestions have been offered; there may be some ideas for places you have not tried here, as well:

We loved Jake's! We went early, sat at the bar by the window where the breeze was great. We love watching the world go by there. We also love the DD though and plan to do both.

We ate breakfast at Jakes on our last trip and loved it. We plan on going back in March. We have never went to Donkey Diner, but plan on going on our next trip.
