Drinking on the beach

Post by jaybfloyd »

What are the rules? Is drinking allowed on all the beaches except for the National Park ones? Thanks!

Seems like I had seen a post that you can not have glass containers.
Don't know what the official rule is about drinking on the beach, but I know many do...just no glass..
I would be curious about the NP beaches because a few years ago Trunk had a little beach bar that was selling stronggggg drinks :D

Ok, thanks. Well that's fine. Cans are cheaper anyway!

Alcohol is allowed on all beaches. Glass is NOT allowed on the National Park beaches. When we have wanted to bring wine to the beach for watching the sunset our workaround is to decant it into a plastic water bottle or one of those reusable metal water canisters before heading to the beach.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Glass will definately get you in trouble (or a ticket)!! Which is why I can't understand why St John Brewers does not sell thier beer in cans or plastic. Keeps me from taking one of my favorite beverages to the beach :(

I can vouche for the ticket for glass bottles ! My daughter was on vacation in St Thomas and she took a day trip with her friends to St John, of course they had bottles of beer and " poof" there was Mr Park ranger. LOL She did say it was quite funny to watch him afterwards as he was hiding sort of in the bushes to peak on another group nearby to see if they had glass..

Since all of the St John Brewers bottled beer is brewed and bottled in Maine I would think they could request plastic or cans to be shipped to the VI - they are a small operation though and and may not be financially worth it - or maybe it would affect the quality in shipping it here from the Mainland?
On STT only Magens and Lindquist beaches do not allow glass by rule.

I hear ya. I'm sort of a beer snob and of course most "quality" beers only come in bottles. Oh well, I'll have to suck it up. Go with quantity not quality I guess!

Last February was the first time I ever saw rangers checking for glass and they were out in force. Every beach, every day we saw at least two patrolling as well as lurking in the bushes (which was sort of funny).

Most all the beaches you will visit are NPS beaches. Those that are not include; East end beaches past Haulover, along the Coral Bay harbor & South Shore beaches from Cruz Bay to Fish Bay including Cocolobo.

The no glass is just a good rule to follow at any beach.
