Sunset, mit Hummer!
Sunset, mit Hummer!
We were photographing the sunset tonight at Coconuts, goodness knows why since we already have gigabytes of sunsets, but the instinct to photograph can be irresistible. Anyway, fortune smiled this evening (enticing sugar-water treats probably improved the odds), and so I got to capture the sunset with a hummer posing in the foreground. Not having the presence of mind to shoot at f/32 on a tripod, the autofocus homed in on the hummer, softening the sunset, so I have included a shot a bit before, where the sunset is properly focused, and in which Vieques can be seen crisply outlined on the horizon, albeit with a bit of rain. The Westin ferry can also be seen making its way into Great Cruz Bay. The sun is now setting well north of its southernmost solstice point, previously posted, and has moved from setting just behind Buck island, to up onto the southern tip of Vieques. A beautiful and slender crescent moon hung brightly tonight, high above in the twilight, but was a bit out of the reach of this lens.
On the drive down the Gifft Hill Road this morning to clear a shipment, I saw a whale breaching in the sea out past Rendezvous Bay. I couldn't see the whale itself, as it was out a ways, but the white spray was pretty obvious. Very cool!
All the best,
Kevin

Would that it were so... Folks at work seem to think that coming down here involves hammocks and beaches, but under the deck or up on a roof is more like it. For the December visit, my punch list had 66 items on it, 38 of which got done, with the rest rolling over into this trip, with more than a few new items. Yesterday we hung a motorized screen over the kitchen breakfast bar, and Dr. Cool just came by to finalize the plan for A/C in the loft. On the other hand, the major renovations are all behind us, and the punch lists simply have to start shrinking soon; any other outcome would suggest deeper underlying issues.
Hammocks and beaches, soon come!

Kevin
