Cruise ship schedule is up for Jan...question
Cruise ship schedule is up for Jan...question
I'm looking at the cruise ship schedule for january on vinow and I see there are no ships scheduled for st john for several of the days I will be on the island. But what exactly does that mean? Don't ships that port in st Thomas have excursions to St. John? or is it that the St. John cruise ships dock at Cruz bay, therefore there's a deluge of people on that day only and we should avoid both cruz bay and trunk bay?
Thank you!

Thank you!

Re: Cruise ship schedule is up for Jan...question
We look at the cruise ship schedule, and when there is no (or maybe 1) ship in STT that day, are the days that we would plan to go to Trunk Bay. When there are few (or no) ships in port, that means that Trunk Bay will be less crowded.

The majority of cruises dock at a couple places on st. Thomas. Occasionally there will be one anchoring out past Cruz bay, then they tender in on boats. These are generally the wind star cruise or the seabourn ships, smaller lines/ships. Nothing actually docks at the dock itself.
When there are a lot of ships at STT then people will be at trunk or honeymoon or salomon for the most part, because they bring in snorkel boats to some of those.
When you are on island buy the daily paper, it lists the cruise ships in port and the number of people cruising, that's really helpful so you know what days to go where.
You must be so excited, have fun!

Hahaha...sorry Anthony! I sincerely didn't know I could view the schedule on this website. I will never go back to that *other* website again
Thanks luvinsun and toni, so I do have to look at both st Thomas and St. John schedules. That means there's only one day for us when no ships are scheduled and that'll be trunk bay day! Toni, that's a good idea to pick up the daily island paper. I didn't realize st john dock was not a deep port? And YES, I am so excited to see this beautiful st john island, to be in warm weather (it was 12 degrees here this morning), meet some great people, see some sea life, tool around in a jeep...just escape to island time if only for a week.
