Adult Beverage Recipes

Post by Dome526 »

I am doing a surprise for wife tonight...fixing the room in a St. John fashionista setting, giving a relaxing body rub, temples, hands, etc. Planning to serve Deb St. John Beverages.... so, I understand "Dark and Stormy" is a favorite beverage on St. John. What is your favorite recipe for a "Dark and Stormy", or a recipe for another favorite St. John beverage? It will be served tonight, as a prep for our upcoming visit....yes LOVE the anticipation!

I do not consider a dark and stormy a STJ beverage. It is really a Bermuda drink.

I am not sure there is really a STJ beverage but if you are going with the VI then I would pick a painkiller.

Rum (originally Pussers, but I prefer Cruzan Dark)
Orange Juice
Pineapple Juice
Coco Lopez

Shaken and topped with freshly grated nutmeg

This is more to her liking.....it will be interesting to see the favorites presented here!

Dark and Stormy is the national drink of Bermuda and was trademarked by Gosling Rum.
2& 1/2 OZ. of Gosling Dark Rum
8 - 10 OZ. of Ginger Beer - I prefer Fentimans

Anything with Cruzan Rum! The fruit ones are easily mixed with juices (try guava if possible but pineapple is never turned down). The Black strap is great alone for sipping or mixed with cola, root beer, cream soda, red pop, or rock'n rye. Also the BBC (Bailey's, Bannana, Colada) just don't forget the chocolate drizzle around the inside of the glass cause it's all in the details :) Super congrats on your silver anniversary!
Don't sweat the small stuff!

Looking forward to this trip....and the fun in preparing for the trip! We will wear St. John clothes that we are packing...and, the St. John night has an Official St. John Beverage, thanks to The Forum idea to pull the Beach Bar recipe from the Beach Bar Website.
The massage beverage of choice for the "St. John Night in Ellington, CT" is a Painkiller. Not only will the massage (with no pursuit of my usaual motive, lol) relax her, but the Painkiller will relax her!

Painkiller
A Most Famous Virgin Island Specialty
(for one drink)

1.5 oz Dark Rum
1.5 oz Orange Juice
1 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Coco Lopez
Fresh Nutmeg
(regular can be substituted)
Slice of Orange &/or Pineapple & Maraschino Cherry for garnish
Mix juices together in a cocktail shaker. Pour juices into a glass filled with ice. Add rum then top with a grating of fresh nutmeg (you can be pretty liberal with the nutmeg; see how much you like but it is a definite ingredient not just a garnish). Finish with a swizzle stick or straw. Painkillers are best made with Pusser's Rum and fresh nutmeg, both of which you can get here in St John. Our neighbors: St John Spice have fresh nutmeg and graters for sale.

Painkillers are, as directed here, not shaken.

BTW, any woman who can put up with me playing rugby for 33 years deserves special treatment! She actually even went to my last game when I retired last year (due to hip replacement) My old boys have a game as I type this..... I miss it so damn much. Rugby was my mistress! I didn't have to worry about my wife being jealous of her, I didn't have to worry about getting her pregnant, I didn't have to worry about her griping at me for being "overserved", .... .... all in all, it is also why we got married in Nov......AFTER rugby season! I have been paying for that ever since! My wife serserves special treatment!
