Frizzy Hair - Dealing with it in the Caribbean :-D

Okay - I've finally learned to not bother blow-drying my naturally curly - sometimes frizzy hair straight in the Caribbean humidity - I used to painstakingly dry it (with concoctions to sleeken it, smooth it... etc.) then, 10 minutes into the day, FRIZZ-BOMB! What's the point - I now go natural with a hairband. I want to know what you do. I used to highlight my dark hair and it looked like fried dried curly straw. Now I've gone back to natural (well, not really natural - that would be 85% gray

) and I am hoping it will look less fried... Any suggestions for great moisturizing leave-in conditioners to try for the curly wild look? I am loving Bumble & Bumble these days - but haven't tried their leave-in conditioners.

It could be worse, my hair is stick straight and just lays there. If it was long I would be fine with a pony tail but it's short so I just look like a guy. A guy with boobs that is - hehehe

I was just thinking about the hair thing today. We were just in Florida and my hair was dried out like straw down there (even with conditioner). It hurts trying to get a brush through it without it. I use cheap spray in conditioner like VO5 (must be nostalgia that keeps me buying it

) Or-what I have heard is that you can dilute your favorite conditioner with water 50/50, put it in a spray bottle and voila- spray in conditioner. I also sometimes use the heavy duty VO5 conditioning hair dressing in the tube or if I am going to style the paste/wax stuff works well. Oh and one more product, Beach Blonde, it's for all hair colors. It smells like the beach too.

With this TSA nightmare, I've taken to just using a bar of soap on my hair. It does tend to make it stand up a bit, but hey, it's island time. I can always wear a ball cap.

I am in the same boat as you when it comes to hair frizz. I have curly hair that frizzes with all of the humidity both at home & in STJ. I usually dry my hair straight but don't feel like bothering while in STJ. I use CHI Silk Infusion and it really helps put the moisture back in your hair so it doesn't look like it is totally fried.

OMG, I have the thickest hair in the universe and I become a walking candy apple when I go to STJ (or anytime there is the slightest bit of humidity)!!! My hair gets so big it's ridiculous. I don't even bother drying it anymore on vaca, just put it in a ponytail and go (and it's usually still wet by the time I go to bed!) Just can't fight it anymore. I always look around too, and everyone else's hair seems to look good on vaca, how is that possible?!

I used Sunsilk Anti-Poof shampoo and conditioner this last trip and it worked pretty well. Nothing is a total remedy on island though, except for a ballcap and ponytail!

I have very thick,naturally curly hair which all stylists love but I hate. It is so much easier to deal with in the midwest, during the dry winter. When I am on the islands, I usually simply pull it up and wear a scrunchie or clip. Tonight, just for the heck of it, I tried to wear it down. BIG mistake. By the time it dried (it's thick, it took about two hours) it had grown to extreme proportions. The good news is that it's dry for the first time in two weeks.

mine is crazy curly too. I use a lot of conditioners and a lot of Mousse. actually the best thing you can do is get a really good haircut that is meant to be curly. I hate my curls and straighten them religiously at home but on vacation and during most southern summers it just isn't worth it! I am getting my summer cut on the 18th so that I have plenty of time to get used to it again before the trip. I like it just above my shoulders when it is curly so it is easier to manage.

Hats work too! The only problem there is that you have to keep it on until you get your hair wet again!

Mine looks like S**T all of the time - I have given up. It's uncontrollable and VERY thick...just ask Cat.

I have been referred to as looking like a poodle and have had two of my sisters (not Cat) threaten to send me to fashion emergency because my hair looks like crap all of the time

Believe it or not, it tends to look better on STJ than here. I think the humidity is worse here because we don't have the breezes or something.

I can't offer any advice though because I am obviously the last person to give fashion or hair advice

I do use mousse or gel so the curls are temporarily under control...for about three hours after I get out of the shower.

Marcia, et al... did you ever see that episode of Friends, where they go down to the Caribbean and Monica's hair grows to "extreme proportions" minute by minute? It's a pretty good representation of my reality.
