Short report August 21st to 27th

Post by John LMBZ06 »

It rained. It rained every day except for Sunday when the sun finally came out in the afternoon. We took that short window and hiked down to Waterlemon and had a good snorkel. It never rained all that hard, so we were out and about exploring the island. We did get some beach time in between the rain every day. It seemed like it would rain half the day and just be cloud the other half. Some days is was just on and off.

Lots of first's on this trip:
1. I saw the wild pigs
2. We went to Lameshure Bay and Little Lameshure. Wanted to hike to Ram's Head, but it was raining too much. Yes, I have still never been to Ram's Head.
3. Was the only car parked by the gate at Oppenheimer. I guess the rain had something to do with that.
4. I actually went to the beach at the Westin. For all of the times I have stayed there, we never use the beach there. We could not tell how much it was going to rain one day, so we did not want to go far. That thought only lasted that one day.
5. I finally saw an eagel ray. I have been diving since the late 80s and had never seen one before.
6. Went in August. It may be the last time I do that.

Best Meal - there were actually a lot, but I will have to go with the lobster dinner at Morgan's Mango. Even the plantains and rice & beans were great. The owner came over and we talked to her. We had recognized her because she was on the same flight to St. Thomas as we were.

Eagle rays!!!! my heart just skipped a beat and I am smiling just thinking about the possibilities in fifty six days!! It is a spectacular site and my first- well - let's just say- there may have been some moisture in my mask!! ( I also was so mesmerized I totally forgot the camera was on my arm and thank god hubby came and grabbed it from me!)
I like snorkeling in the rain as long as there is no lightening- heck I'm getting wet anyway!!

yeah august can be like that..... but then so can May.... or sept .... or whenever....

it's so hard when you really want to be outside enjoying th esun and all and it rains... but then the rain does a lot of good too.... cisterns are full and the island is green (ok, mosquitos too... but....)
i had a week similar to yours over memorial day in 2010 -- i have NEVER seen weather like that! ever! whole days with torrential rain..... but we came back in august and had a beautiful time ( but happened to be in a nasty mosquito time!) -- so don;t discount august completely......
it can be lovely and the water is warm.....
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

Thanks for the short and a bit soggy trip report John! Sorry about all the rain but I bet you really had time to slow down and relax~ 8) It seems like when it's sunny all the time we're always racing around trying to get to every beach. Fun but tiring sometimes.
So glad you made it to the Lameshure's... I still have not been there! Ram's Head is still on my list too! (that's why I have to go back!)
Yea for the Eagle Ray sighting! Hope to hear more about your trip at our next DFW Forum Gathering~ :D
I've got 2 tickets to paradise~Pack your bags we'll leave tonight!
