My solution

Post by StLytho »

I've never been comfortable taking one of my guitars on the plane--checked as baggage ws definitely out and carry-on seems such an imposition on the other passengers. I solved the problem by gettting a ukulele. If you've been playing guitar for any length of time, the transition is a piece of cake and it fits in the overhead in a good stout case without taking up more space than an ordinary carry-on bag.

Ah, Mary had previously posted under a "CatMom" type moniker, I remember because I had inquired about Far Niente and I am also a cat mom :)

Talked to a couple of people while traveling who checked their guitars and did not have a problem. Played one that was still in tune after the trip!

Also talked to several pros in our guitar group who travel all over the world with really NICE guitars who have never had a problem.

I think I am going to find a used guitar to use for travel. Get a good hard case for it and make sure the insurance covers it. If it gets damaged just replace it. Even with paying the extra baggage fee it is still cost effective.

Rental guitars are never as good as your own and sound and playability differs. Besides, who can't use another guitar!
