Change fee
Hi,
We are booked on our first vist to st John next month ( see my ticker)!
There are 6 of us family members , flying USAir, and I would like to know if the change fee would be considered domestic (150.00 plus fare diff) or international (250.00 plus)
From prior posts this is a muddy issue for some reason. I am fully aware we are traveling to a us territory.
Only asking this trivial info as I put my mom on in-home hospice care a couple days ago.

I just did a change today, and Delta considers the Virgin Islands domestic. A quick call to the airline should answer the question briskly.
Good luck with Mom. My Dad spent 25 days in in-home hospice last year. It worked out very well and he was comfortable. He had a rebound when he went from life-extending care to palliative care that lasted about a week. I discussed canceling our November St. John trip, but he was adamant that we were not to change our travel plans on his account. It worked out in the end.

I called USAir ..the agent said it would be domestic.
Just for kicks, I called again (of course got a diff agent) and she said international.
However, she said for change fee purposes, would be 150.00 as international fee is for transatlantic or transpacific, and USVI didn't qualify.
Interesting.
Btw....when y'all are able to talk the airline into some sort of leniency on that fee due to circumstances, do you have to ask for a supervisor or what?

It's been a year ago now but I believe what happened was that I asked the first person to reduce the change fee and then I had to ask to speak to a supervisor. I didn't have to push very hard at all, I just asked if they could reduce change fees and was told "yes".
I actually didn't make the change on that first phone call because I wasn't yet sure, I had just called to see what my options were. Then when I called back a couple weeks later to make the flight change I was told that they never reduce change fees and that the only reason they'd honor it was because there was a note in my account saying that I had been given the offer. This was on Delta.
So I guess the moral of the story is that if you don't like the first answer you get, wait awhile and ask again.
