Ferry to Jost
Do you have to pay the $25.00 customs fee that the private charter boats charge when taking the ferry to Jost?

STJ to JVD is currently $70 r/t. Plus $5 pp BVI departure tax, payable at BVI Customs when you leave. Ferry ride can be paid via credit card. Departure tax cash only.
My wife & I took the ferry on 5/28. I agree with what others have previously recommended here. Go to White Bay first. It becomes fairly crowded in the afternoon, especially at Soggy's.
Also, be aware that InterIsland uses some creative ferry routing, at least during the weekday runs. We ferried directly from STJ to JVD in the morning. But our 400pm scheduled return to STJ was about 30 minutes late arriving, because our ferry first went to West End BVI before coming to JVD. (It may also do that on the morning run.) We arrived at STJ around 515pm, and sat in The Creek for about 20 minutes while a couple of boats ahead of us, including one of the big BVI ferries, cleared Customs. We didn't make it to the Beach Bar until nearly 600pm.
Such is life in Paradise.

Or you can have a multiple day visit and take a ferry from Tortola to Jost Van Dyke. Watch out, the times are frequently changed, so be sure to check with the Ferry Schedule Jost Van Dyke at http://www.newhorizonferry.com/schedule.php
