How Do You Cope.....

Post by TraumaQueen »

Since we had a fabulous vacation there this year as soon as we got home we started planning for next year with the kids. Welllll, airfare isn't allowing us to do that at this moment and the kids (12 and 13)want to go on a cruise .

I absolutely thought a cruise was the best thing eva until our 10 days on STJ. Now, it's a far second. We'll be doing an 8 day that will take us to STT for 10 hours so I'll make it back for a day next year. After all, this is how I discovered STJ. We are going to rent a jeep this time and explore the island with the boys and show them all we fell in love with (even the Stinky Donkey Dip in Coral Bay).

After much discussion, we've decided to keep STJ our adult paradise for now. We'll be back every other year unless airfare comes down to a reasonable price. Living in MS we are limited in our selections unless we want to drive to New Orleans and even then they're not so great.

So for 2 LONG years I'll be reading and living through those of you who are going and posting trip reports. Keep them coming....with pics!!!

PS At least on the cruise they can eat like teenage boys do and it won't cause me to put a second mortgage on my house

We love to have St. John our adult place. It's such a great vacation to bond and have some romance. No kids, no how.

I'm glad to hear this. Makes me feel lees selfish :D I live taking my son everywhere, but for some reason I feel the need to keep STJ all to my adult self.

We just back last month from our first trip. We debated whether to take our boys 24, 22 and 8 back with us. We have decided for now to keep it to ourselves. We have stayed in some amazing places for a couples weekend or longer before. The week at St. John was so amazing that nothing else we have done compares. Chuck has said that it proves to him that we need to be "selfish" at times and spend the time and money only on us for those times. We are still on such a high and we have been home for a month already.

We are hoping to get back next year but know that realistically it will probably not be until 2014. Already picking out a villa though!

My kids (24 & 14) would lynch us if we tried to sneak off to STJ without them! They were with us on the first trip, and every trip. It's where we celebrated my daughters graduation...it's where my son wants to celebrate his. We are headed back next month with the kids and our daughters BF. I'm just hoping that my almost 15 year old doesn't blow our entire food budget on his eats! Kid can eat us all under the table! Honestly...something would be wanting without my babies at our special spot. :D

It all comes down to what you can afford. If you can afford the kids and they love it then do it. If money is tight and the kids don't appreciate it. Keep it to yourselves. Think who works hard to pay for it...

We learned of St. John from my oldest son, who proposed to his wife there in 2010.

Our first trip to STJ last year was our 25th anniversary, and we needed the time alone.

This year, I talked to our sons (28 & 23), to see if they wanted to come this year (and our daughter-in-law & grandson). And would you believe he said he'd rather go camping at the lake!!! After all, it's where he proposed to his wife, I thought they'd love to go again!

Oh well, we can use the time away from them...
