Favorite areas to stay

Post by Backtotheislands »

In my dreams  , if I wanted to own 4 different properties of varied sizes with different views to rent out and I could stay in the one that wasn't rented, where would they be? I know I'd want one with a sunset view, one in Coral Bay, and probably one in/near Cruz Bay. What neighborhoods/area would you suggest?

We've been going to St john for almost 10 years and I think our favorite place to stay is Ditleff Point and Rendezvous Bay area...the views...BREATH taking...close enough to Cruz Bay for us as well. Some people like to stay a little closer...but we absolutely love that area...

I am in the minority but sunset views aren't important to me. I think it is because my STJ sunsets have ranged from ho-hum to pretty. On the other hand, I have seen spectacular sunrises.

I would want one on the North Shore and one overlooking Coral Bay.

If cost is no object then one in Upper Peter Bay with a northshore view. Another on Mamey Peak with a down-island view and another on Gibney Beach. Perfect!!

Definitely in the Cruz Bay area--close enough to get to the North Shore beaches (by far my favorites)the quickest as well as to the restaurants & shops in town, and the dingy rentals, but far enough away not to get all the noise of town at night or have to constantly go through what I call the 'congestion circle' from the ferry dock up around the Catholic church & Fish Trap and down past Lime Inn.

I also really love that view of the Cruz Bay Harbor, Pillsbury sound, the outlying cays, the sunsets, and the sparkly dots of St. Thomas lights at night; watching the ferries and sailboats, etc. during the day.

I also have a LONG travel day and really couldn't take another extra 1/2 hour or so of driving after FINALLY arriving at the dock plus I have limited time on the island and just don't want to spend a lot of time driving to all the places that I now know are my favorites after all these years of visiting the island.

But if money was absolutely no object, then I would also love something on the North Shore; it would have to be accessed from the North Shore Road, and lie somewhere between Caneel and Cinnamon. Of course, if money was no object, then I probably wouldn't have to worry about an exhausting travel day since I would fly direct in my private lear jet, be met by my private taxi and ferry, and have plenty of leisure time to vacate...
