I wish I had waited to book our flight!!

Post by Bonny in CA »

My hubby is starting a new job with his company which will have him earning over 40,000 Delta SkyMiles every six weeks or so, which totally would have us upgrading to first class when we go to STJ in November.... Yay!!! Happy Happy!!!!
:D

BUT... I booked our tickets on American Airlines! I guess I'll have to wait til next time to experience first class. :(

Oh well, I'll be happy just to be on island, even if I get no sleep on the plane!

We have never booked first class on America but we try to get to the airport early and the last two times we were asked at the check in kiosk if we wanted to upgrade to first class for @ $150 each. We always take them up on it :)

We were hoping to get a free upgrade using his SkyMiles, because last year we flew Delta and we had forgotten that this years tickets are AA.

I hope American will offer that deal to us! We are not members of whatever AA has as a rewards system, are we still eligible for that? Or was that a perk of being a member?

Also, my husband wonders if that is $150 for each leg of the trip, or the entire trip? We will be flying from San Francisco to Miami, then to St. Thomas.

We are AAdvantage members but I'm not sure if it is for members only. Yes, it is just for each leg of the trip. Not both ways.

Does he have the option of flying American instead of Delta for work so he can rack up some points on American? Then he could use the AA miles to upgrade for your trip to STJ.

When I used to travel a lot for work I got to choose whatever flights/airlines I wanted and I did so strategically to earn miles with whichever airline was most advantageous to me at the time.

Since you purchased AA tickets, you should definitely join their program. It's free so why not? Normally you can call them and have them apply your upcoming flights to your new account.

I don't think he gets a choice. I don't know if it's company policy or just his destination which is Kazakhstan... somewhere near Russia...
