Trip Report Part 1

Post by Mark »

Three of us went on this trip. Me my wife Marie and our friend Jackie who is just divorced after 30 plus years of marriage. We left Boston at 10:40 A.M. on 4/26 and all was uneventful. We were met on St. Thomas by Rachel who drove us to Red Hook for the 4 P.M. Ferry. Thanks Xislandgirl for the contact she is a very lovely person. She said she has a few other reservations from the forum and she will call and thank you.We arrived at Ocean Pearl at 5 P.M. and were in the pool at 5:05.Had dinner at The Lime Inn and the food was very good as usual.Back to the Villa and crashed after a long day.

Friday we went to Cinnamon and it was very windy. The sand was stinging it was so windy. At around noon time we heard sirens and noticed the National Park Boat heading to shore near the rental area. We went over to discover that 2 people in a kayak had pulled someone from the water and the paramedics were trying to revive him. Unfortunatly after trying for over an hour they were unsucessful. We found out later that he was on a Cruise with his wife and they were from Finland and he was 36. This put a damper on any snorkling for the day. That evening we went into town and stopped by the get together at the Beach Bar and said hi to a few folks. Went back to the Villa and made dinner and hung out at the pool for the night.

Saturday we went to Francis, this is my favorite beach I really enjoy the views and the calmness of the water we stayed till noon. We had an appointment to see Villa Calypso del Sol and we loved it so much we booked it for Thanksgiving week. We went to Skinny Legs for lunch it was our first time and we really enjoyed it.This is where I got to watch part of the N.F.L. Draft. We went back to the Villa and spent the rest of the day by the pool.

Off to a great start!! Sad story about the guy on the cruise, though. Not something you expect to see when on vacation, that's for sure.

Can you tell me more about Calypso del Sol? Any info would be welcomed. We will be staying there in a few weeks. How were the bedrooms & baths? How was the view?

Thanks!

The house is a newer home and it is very well maintained. It sits low in Chocolate Hole so the view is of the other end of Chocolate Hole and of the waves crashing into the cliff rocks. All of the bedrooms are identical with plenty of shade on the upper and lower porches. The pool area is in full sun all day with little shade but the screened porch will be heaven sent with all of the misquetos.Air thru out the entire house and all appliences are new.

Hey Mark!
Could you give me some info on Rachel who took you to Red Hook? Is she with a taxi service?

Beach Bar

Post by Tina »

Hi Mark. I think you were part of the large group Michele (bug) organized. We were on the end of the bar by the entrance/kitchen and didn't make it all the way around to meet everyone as the band that night was pretty loud. We were on Hawksnest when we heard the sirens that day. After I learned what happened on Cinnamon (from Rick G.), I got pretty spooked the rest of the week when I heard sirens (happened twice when we were snorkeling). Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip (and found bits of sun during the monsoon rain storms).
If you don't take risks, you'll have a wasted soul.

I arrived about 5 min before the band returned from their break. I met a few folks but when the band started it was too loud. My wife and Jackie arrived shortly after from shopping (OUCH!) and we decided to go make dinner and sit by the pool.
