Food provisioning on STT before ferrying over to STJ

Post by tochin »

We are going to rent our car on STT for the first time before going over to STJ. We would like to food shop before heading to STJ.

What the the food shopping options on STT?

- I know about Kmart.
- I've heard mention of Cost U Less but know nothing about them.
- Grocery store in Red Hook?

What options are there and where do you think you get the best value?

Does anyone have specific preferences to where they shop and why?

Thanks much!

Tochin,

It would help to understand what you want to purchase so the Forum Members can guide you to the best store. Our group has only stopped at Cost-U-Less. We have several beer drinkers in our group of 6-8 and have found cases of beer to be $5 cheaper there than on St. John. We usually purchase eggs, orange juice, cranbery juice, water and some liquor and pop and fill in with other items that look good. We are cooler people and bring lunch meats, cheeses, steaks, spaghetti sauce, ribs with us so I can't speak to the selection of those items. Once again, if you can provide some detail on what you would want to purchase, it will help with our answers! :D

We will be interested in getting meats, veggies, drinks, beer/alcohol, water, snacks, bread, juices, milk, paper products to name some things.

We usually ran to Starfish and stocked up but want to do this on STT since we will have the car there first and can hopefully get better prices.

Thanks.

We stop at the Food Center right before the ferry dock. That way the cold food has less time to sit in the car. I don't know how the Food Center compares to other places, it's just where we've gone 9 trips in a row so we keep going.

Look at the Cost U Less website to get a feel for what they have and in what quantities and the price. You may not need such large quantities.
We stopped at Food Center and stocked up, but after getting other items on STJ, I think the prices are comparable and so is selection. Also, for the first time we noticed sales at Starfish Market, and there were no sales to be had a Food Center.
