HELP-Canon D10 dead-Need replacement ASAP
HELP-Canon D10 dead-Need replacement ASAP
Good day! We will be in STJ in about 2 weeks. We loved our D-10, but it is not feeling well. We are starting to build, so we need a new RELIABLE above/underwater camera for fun and our next building blog. Who can give us some advice about what we should get? I had a spectacular surprise birthday party for my husband last night and no pix from the D-10. Any suggestions?

I can highly recommend the Canon G12 with seperate underwater housing. It takes really sharp photos underwater. John and I are always vying to be the one who gets to use it (the D10 was our backup--I think the D10 photos are slightly blurry on the edges). The G12 is great above water also. It has lots of fun settings to play with, and it's not too heavy to tote around. I carry it with me wheerever I go, both at home and on vacation.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I love my G11 too. Like you said Becky, it's great both above and underwater.
Sometimes I think those uw cameras (lie the D10) is a bit of a compromize when it comes to quality of the pictures. It's VERY handy and easy when snorkeling but it doesn't take nearly as good pictures as the G12.
We have a D10 as well, so it's very easy to compare the pictures.
I dove with a guy a few weeks ago, who had the Pentax Optio uw camera and he was very happy with it. He just had to hoover above us rest, as the camera was only good underwater down to 30 ft.
Maybe the Pentax Optio is worth checking out? We had one before the D10 and my husband was much more pleased with that one. Not sure what the latest model is called, W something. W had a W10, but I guess they are now W30 or higher.

Many of these cameras fail eventually in the seals, so get that extended warranty. I agree, if you liked the D10, why not get the D20?
We have the Olympus Stylus Tough 8010, our 2nd Olympus. First one failed, 2nd one so far needed one warranty service....but so far so good, we've had it through 4 tropical trips and a summer surfing in NH.
My wife is a photographer and has Nikon everything.....and Nikon came out with their version of a compact underwater camera, called the AW100, she wants that for our next trip.....gotta keep her happy, guess we'll buy a Nikon!
