I'm staying at Maho Camps from May 27th into June. Don't think I'll be doing the actual swim, but I'll be there to cheer everyone on!
Good luck and have fun! :D

Keep an eye out for the middle-ager-in-spandex-who-shouldn't-be.... oh wait. That's about everyone!

Except for the punk High School kids who are going to actually race in this "race".

Cheer for everyone except the punks! :D

Looks like fun! I just started back swimming. Maybe next year! I would have to get out of school early, but It might be worth it!

Nancie-Pa - Come by the post-swim party tent. My plan is to be sleeping under the 3rd table from the left by about 3:30. Give me a kick.

Beach to Beach

Post by baldingeagle »

Hey I'm coming for the beach to beach swim as well. I need to make hotel reservations. I've never been to St. John any recommendations? Do I need a car? Whats the scoop?

I'm coming solo so off the beaten path is OK. I'm also an amateur photographer. Will my gear be safe while I'm swimming?

My wife had to bail out for work reasons.... and after much soul searching (and a trip for the two of us in Sept!) I kept my flight. (I've used this swim as motivation for many miles in our local concrete pond.) So the villa turned into a Maho Bay Tent Cottage and the transportation that was a rental jeep morphed into the 3T's : Taxi, Thumb and my new Teva's. Majo sounds perfect for me bach'ing it, close to the water & lots of trails, but never been there. And close to the swim, of course.

Regarding solo-security. The organizers say they'll truck our bags to the finish. I wouldn't leave a laptop in said bag (it's staying at home!) but my towel, the aforementioned Teva's & other minor what-nots are OK, I think.

The tents look perfect. I'll have laptop and camera gear with me and I'm worried about leaving them in the tent unsecured. Guess I'm destined for a regular hotel with safe. You doing the whole three mile?

Ok!!!... three miles!!! I do well (when I am swimming regularly) doing a mile and a half. I may not try to do this one! Unless I get into super shape. I suppose if I took about 3 hrs I could do it!

of course I'm swimming the whole monty. and slowly. Have to get my money's worth!

Swimming a practice race tomorrow at lake benbrook. 2.4 miles of mud.... assuming we are not rained out - which is looking likely.

I can't wait to swim over coral & fish instead of McDonalds wrappers... not that I can see the trash with the lakes 6" visibility in our local lake!
