Rain? Plan B suggestions?

Post by Dome526 »

OK, Pia notes that it is common to get 7-10 days of overcast and or rain in Oct/Nov. So, does anyone have any suggestions for rainy day activities in St. John?

Just got back and had some rainy days.

We did a little shopping on rainy days. Mongoose Junction has good shops and we also visited Coconut Coast Studio on a rainy afternoon.

Nothing you can do about the weather, so try to have a good time anyway.

Aside from the aforementioned indoor activities, snorkeling, hiking (right from the castle if you are adventurous!), drinking, shopping - it usually doesn't rain all day long so you can usually work in any of the above. If you get wet, who cares! Just watch your footing if you decide to hike! From your vantage point at the castle, it is also pretty cool watching the weather come toward you over the ocean. From our place a little further down the hill we spent the better part of a day sitting on the deck watching the rain come toward us, making bets if it will hit us or just miss us! It's nice to have days where everything just slows down like that...

Hike Ram Head when the weather abates to a Cat 2.

Go to the Westin and Caneel - act like you own the place. Take the dogs for a walk.

Check on friends. Read.

I actually hiked to Ram Head last spring during a storm. It was great. Some pics here: http://stjusvi.com/ram-head-trail-20may-2011

I hiked several days when it was overcast/rainy and it was always fun. The rain actually cools you off.

Last year was the rainiest it has ever been on our trips, but it did not dampen our spirits. One afternoon in a monsoon we sat at the Tourist Trap and although rain was running down my back I was able to keep my beverage from getting watered down :D so everything was good!

We were in STJ for one trip and it rained every day. It didn't keep us out of the water! We snorkeled every day - heck we were going to get wet anyway and got some great pictures and had the whole place to ourselves! We only get spooked if it's lightening!

After the hike out to Ram Head, wait out the rest of the storm with Larry and Cheryl at the Tourist Trap not far from the Salt Pond parking lot.

Been there, done that and had a great afternoon despite the downpour.

They have plastic chairs and canopy tents (not to mention awesome frosty beverages) perfect for the rain soaked, yet spirits undiminished tourists.

Pretty sure the mantra there is...rain or shine, it's always party time!

Just bring cash.
It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow

We snorkel or shop or hang out reading at "home." Pretty much anything except a party under a manchineel tree is better than being at home :)
