4 BR villa

Post by MLS »

For next year I'm looking for a four (or more) BR villa on St. John. My son's family (two small kids under 6) would like 2 bedrooms close together on the same level on one side of the common area. We'd like 2 or more bedrooms on the opposite side, no restriction on closeness. Pool necessary, spa optional. Great view wanted.

Island Sun for example does not work as though the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house, they are not on the same level.

Any area on the island is okay; we like 'em all.

Recommendations?

La Papaya (destinationstjohn.com) might do. It has a two bedroom "apartment" on the lower floor and 3 bedrooms upstairs, pool, hot tub and what appears to be a lovely view.

Ambiance might work for you. It has 3 master suites with private baths. 1 in the main house and 2 in a separate pod. Also, in the main house - though up a flight of spiral stairs - is a loft bedroom that is perfect for kids.

My then 3yo stayed up there (the treehouse) and loved it ... she did get a bit biten by mosquitos but it there was a weird weather swell happening that killed the breezes pretty much on the whole island. Not sure if it would have been an issue otherwise.

It would be a great layout for a couple with kids that was traveling with two couples without kids.

I am not sure of your price range?

John LOVES this villa. I am not as sure. It is all on one level though, with a cool pool and good views: http://cateredto.com/VillaPage/CRL

This one has three bedrooms that open to the living room, and two more on a lower level:

and then there’s this one (though the pool is kind of small):

or this one…

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Eden's Whim

Post by Randy in MD »

We stayed in Eden's Whim a couple of year ago with 4 other couples and it's a beautiful home with a pool and jacuzzi. 2 bedrooms off the main house are connected, and there are 2 more (upstairs/downstairs) at one end of the pool. The 5th bedroom is in the main house itself. Lots of room to spread out. See it here: http://www.seaviewhomes.com/edens_whim.htm

4BR Villa

Villa Panache, a 5 BR house overlooking Rendevous Bay,has a master bedroom in the main pavillion with an ajoining bedroom containing trundle beds.I have read in the reviews of this villa that this adjoining bedroom is excellent for young children traveling with parents, and not to be considered a separate bedroom for couples traveling together. Presume this is kind of a large ensuite type deal with a door affording privacy for the king bedroom. The remainder of the bedrooms are spead out in separate pavillions off, above and below the pool deck. Think I recall seeing that there is even a bathtub in one of these bedrooms, but not the master. The villa is in a really impressive spot and claims to welcome children, so the railings and such should be OK.

Another brand new villa you might consider is Sol Inclination through IslandGetaways.com. That one has a main house as well as a guest house which is set apart from the main house. The guest house has 2 queens, with a separate kitchen/dining area and TV. The main house has 2 kings with a separate media room and study also. The pool and spa are on a separate level between the 2 buildings. This house is at the very top of Fish Bay, not as convenient to town as Rendevous. You might want to inquire about the pool, though, as I believe it is 5 ft deep with no shallow end.

Some very good recs here. Thank you.

We have stayed at Ambiance before and it is definitely not what we want (close to and on same level as the kids).

Villa Panache is a very good rec in a location we like, even though I have demeaned it the past as an example of the McMonster villas.

Coral Cove is fascinating but has two things we don't like, chickens and bugs. Seagate's bedrooms don't work for us, but Ristaba's do. Eden's Whim works too. Eden's Whim has an interesting story in obtaining a building permit. The story that I heard said that the original permit was turned down because it was thought that no single home could be so large with so many roofs and buildings-surely it was a multiunit building. Sol Inclination is a very interesting house as we have watched it being built the past view years. The dropoff from the driveway on the west side is precipitous. Do water trucks back up there?

I appreciate the careful thought that has been put into this enquiry. Thanks again.

How about Vistaero (destinationstjohn.com). Two bedrooms on the main level and three on the lower level. Huge pool and deck area.

Sol Inclination doesn't take kids under 10. We really liked that one but had to cross it off our list upon that realization.

We're renting Rendezview (note the "view" on the end, different than "vous") thru Island Getaways. The lower level has 2 BR connected thru the bathrooms, also has a small kitchenette. The upstairs has 2 BR separated by the Great Room/kitchen. Nice pool, no hottub though.

We also stayed at Great Expectations this past Feb. Two separate bedroom pods on either side of the Great Room/kitchen. Each BR pod has 2 BR, 2 BA (wonderful garden showers). All on the same level. Has a nice wading pool for the little ones as well as a hot tub. Also has a guest house for extra bedrooms, they were all closed up however, so we only peeked in, they looked okay.

Croix Vista was on our short list. 2 BR up and 2 BR down. Very new, very nice, very affordable. We also considered Sea Forever thru Catered To rentals. Way more reasonably priced, recently renovated home, pool, hot tub, same bedroom configuration that we needed, 2BR up and down.

Good luck.

We just returned from St. John and stayed at Villa Claudia. It is wonderful! Sounds like what you are looking for. www.villaclaudia.com The owner and managers are GREAT to work with. We saved a lot of $$$$ by booking directly with Chuck, the owner.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Villa Claudia is a house I've been in. I too like the house and the owner whom I met when he hosted Angie of VIVA's graduation. The bedrooms as I remember them are not at all close or adjacent.

No, they want the kids (2 and 5) next door, close, same level, preferable connected with an inside door. It is not an easy find!

Happy Moon bedrooms are an example, albeit in a too small house for us.
