Lockable Beach Bags on Sale
The topic of keeping car keys, cash, cameras, etc. safe at the beach has come up on this forum a couple of times.
For my last trip I used a KYSS bag (Keep Your Stuff Safe) and it gave me some peace of mind. (I kept my stuff in there at Salt Pond while I hiked to Ram Head, for example.)
If you want one, you can get $10 off between now and Mother's Day. Use the code KYSS4MOM when you order online:

I'm not affiliated with them; just thought you'd like to know if you have an upcoming trip.

I didn't because I ordered kind of last minute for my trip. I was thinking of getting the pink one so it wouldn't be so blah, but ended up with a dark blue in case I ever want my DS to carry it.Teresa_Rae wrote:Did you get yours embroidered? If so do you think it was worth the extra cost?

paulandtracie: glad it worked out! Now you have an extra $10 for a painkiller.

I bought a Pacsafe Travelsafe 100 Anti Theft Portable Safe last year for 45.00 from Amazon. It is heavy gauge mesh with a heavy chain and a lock and key. I wrapped chain around a good sized tree and put key on a keeper around my wrist. (I left second key at villa just in case). I covered portable safe with chairs and towels and felt very secure snorkeling.

The KYSS bags do not contain wire mesh; the ones you're thinking of are Pac Safe.JJShaw wrote:I wonder if these bags have some type of mesh wire in them to keep them from being cut open to get to the items inside...I was thinking there was one type of bag that had that in it..Was it this one?
I have a Pac Safe bag and the way it's made you cannot lock it to something. There is a sliding lock thing that tells you exactly how to unlock it and it would only take someone about 15 seconds to figure out how to open it. I don't know if their other bags are like that but I would not use the one I have on the beach.

I don't think this is the kind with the wire mesh; I just checked mine and it's sturdy but someone could cut it open with a knife I bet.JJShaw wrote:I wonder if these bags have some type of mesh wire in them to keep them from being cut open to get to the items inside...I was thinking there was one type of bag that had that in it..Was it this one?
I look at it as a deterrent: a casual thief will probably go for the path of least resistance and move on if he/she can't easily open or swipe the bag. A determined person with a sharp knife or wire cutter could get in or snap the chain, but they would be pretty noticeable doing that at the beach if there were other people around.
Since I used to just leave stuff out unprotected at the beach, this is a step up for me.

I used my bag at the beach everyday. Although a determined thief could cut it open, I think the "grab and go" thief is a bigger concern at the beach and this bag certainly covers that. I felt comfortable going for long snorkels and trail walks while leaving my stuff locked up in my bag. I have the light blue one and I'm really glad I bought it

Ok, I ordered two, one for myself and one for my Mom as a gift for Mother's Day. She and my Dad go to a lot of baseball games (that is how they vacation, following the White Sox around the country), so I figured the bag would be nice for her to take to ball parks so she doesn't always have to take her stuff to the bathroom, concession stand, etc.
I ended up embroidering both so we'll see how they turn out!
