Canon D20?
Canon D20?
I know some people are tired of camera talk, but this isn't the typical "which camera should I buy" topic, I promise. I am wondering if anyone has gotten the chance to try out the new D20 yet? It seems that compared to the D10, some specs have been upgraded and some have been downgraded. For example the D20 has better video, but the D10 has a faster shutter speed.

My D20 came yesterday. I have not taken it underwater yet, but my first impression is that I like the design more than the D10. It is thinner, it feels more natural to hold, and the viewscreen is larger. It also makes an audible click when the memory card/battery door is completely closed. That should help with user error leaking issues, I think. Most importantly, there is not only an underwater setting, but an underwater macro setting. I am really looking forward to using that setting while snorkeling.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

I hope they have fixed the seals! Mine and all my friends who have the D10 have had it die due to water flooding in. I love the camera's features but would be leery of buying it again. I am actually on my 3rd one because the first two leaked (2nd one was just out nof warranty..13 mos old) and I had to fight to get them to replace it. And one time it was after a 5 second dunk in the pool!
Curious to see how everyone likes the D20!

Got mine about a week ago. Havnt had it in the water yet, but plan to get it in the pool before our trip next month. I do like the feel better than my D10, but will probably take both on our trip. My D10 has worked perfectly for 2 STJ trips and a ton of parties in and around our pool. I will probably let the kiddos use the d10
The D20 seems to have been improved a bit since the D10, but the price has gone way up as well. For about the same price you can get a GoPro Hero2 with dive housing. It seems that the GoPro would give you better quality and the housing is rated to 197'. So, for snorkeling & diving I think I've got to go with the GoPro, however it wouldn't be a good camera to carry around all day for still images.

I'm about 100 shots into my D20, but none underwater. I've never had a D10 so I can't compare, however, compared to my G10 and I'm underwhelmed. Shutter lag is long, shots are pretty soft, indoor color using flash is a bit weird, and even at high ISOs, it doesn't shoot that fast to get crisp action shot. Believe me, I really want to like this camera as a rough and tumble, carry anywhere P&S but so far, not so much. I've even though of sending it back but I'm not sure they'd do a refund.
However, maybe I'm being too picky and asking too much. The G10s-12s are definitely a different grade but they also have a significant flaw where the blades of the lens covers scratch the lens, costing $150 for Canon to fix. Of course Canon doesn't alknowledge the flaw but it's pretty common according to the photog forums.
