We are not pleased. Just back from a cheaper and less crowded Virgin Gorda, which just got relatively cheaper. I'm swearing off STJ in the high season.
Augie has a good point - higher cost and degradation of service. But the market is elastic - current agencies will transfer inventory from STT, and maybe some of the bigger agencies will open shops on STJ (Avis, Budget).
The decision to restrict rental traffic appears to be political rather than an economic decision. Corruption is common here in DC, and our sister city San Juan. I can only imagine the intrigue and stench in the USVI.

Ditto Rick. We've been contemplating VG and this may be the nudge we need. Who needs 120 people at Little Lameshur anyway?
Are the taxi drivers behind this ?
We like to island hop and it must piss off the taxi drivers when my gang jumps in the car at Trunk.
They see $50 dollars going down the road.
It is the greedy taxis.
The new parking lot at Red Hook won't be able to handle the cars.. taxi drivers all over the VIs are so happy now !!
The locals are screwing us for liking their paradise..
either way we pay.
