End of July...First of August?

Post by chrisn »

We ALWAYS go in June. Didn't work out this year due to mine and my daughter's work schedules...soooo we will be on VG, the last week of July, and STJ, the first week of August.

Is there a big difference between these timeframes in terms of heat? Rain? Ocean conditions? Peeps on island? I think we will make it before most seasonal restaurant closings...is this correct?

I have been in June, July, and August, multiple times each.

Of those three months June is the most crowded, August is the least. The ocean is colder in June compared to August.

Yes, the first week of August pretty much everything will still be open.

We were there in July two years ago and it rained a lot, more than any other trip, other than one November one that we could remember. But I think weather can really vary so you just never know. Beaches seemed crowded but probably because it was so rainy beach time got compressed for people into the few sunny times. I think everything was open. Probably the weather bothered me more than usual just because it was our first time bringing people and I wanted them to have a great time.

We always go in August because of my job. This will be our 4th trip in 4 years, again - in August. I love that everything - restaurants, beaches, you name it - is less crowded during the off season! Sometimes we'll be the only ones at a beach. Lovely! And we haven't really had any issues with restaurant closings other than Vie's....sigh.

I think I've gone to STJ every month of the year. The summer months are a little warmer but the island is less crowded. I don't suffer because of the heat. A/C in the bedroom is a must where I have been staying lately but prior to that in our condo we had a good breeze and only needed the ceiling fans.
Just me, but I'd go to STJ at any opportunity no matter what the weather. Been there during 2 hurricanes and made the best of it and even got to stay a couple of extra days because of Earl. Heading back end of July until the beginning of Aug. for 2 weeks.
Hope you decide to go!

Oh we're going! Flights and villa are booked...and I'm getting real close to being mentally checked out! I noticed you will be on island the same time. Perhaps we will run into each other! I'll be the blonde with the funky bun escorted by a hippie, a drama girl, a surfer boy, and the artist. Drama Girl's BF...He sports a sleeve tattoo. Say hey if you see us!

I second everything ColumbiaSCTraveler said. All so true. And we'll be there, too, last day of July and first two weeks of August. We'll probably see you because there are so few peeps on-island!
