Post by JJShaw »

Just curious if anyone has tried the mosquito bracelets..the coil type things? Anyone used them at home or on STJ?
Thanks, J.

We used the plastic mosquito bracelets last year, and they worked well. My wife swears by them. What they're probably *not* good at is protecting you while sitting on a beach in the late afternoon, right after some rain showers, during a no-see-um attack!

Other than that, they work pretty well.

My wife is a mosquito, no-seeum magnet. We used the bracelets in Oct/Nov 2011 and they worked awesome! Didn't need them this April.

Mosquito bracelets

Post by nuendelcapecod »

Glad to hear people have found these effective. We had a terrible problem with mosquitoes this year in our tent at Cinnamon Bay. Our site was closer to the water than usual. We didn't think to check for bugs when we arrived our first evening. Woke up puffy-faced 1st morning and totally unrecognizably swollen the second morning. Once we took steps to spray the tent and swat what we saw and put a blanket along where the door netting meets the floor we were better off. Will be taking these bracelets next year. Where are people buying them, please?

I saw some just recently in Walmart, are these the same ones? I believe they were pretty cheap, like a buck or two each. I was thinking they would be great around my ankles since I tend to get eaten up the worst on my lower limbs and feet.
Thanks for the tips, I was very curious about these!

Did you use one of their tents or bring your own? We did a baresite last yr. #56 and wasnt bothered too badly by the bugs even on the beach at night..we have a cottage reserved this yr and Im thinking maybe we try the bracelets this time. I also saw the buttons that are supposed to be repellent as well.

I bought a pkg of (10-12) on line at www.viatekproducts.com. Mosquito Shield Bands. They were more expensive on line than different brands at Walgreens, Walmart. Each one lasts minimum of 2-3 days. I was skeptical but they work extremely well. My wife wore hers on her ankle and worked even when wet.

Funny that this discussion came up this week and today I get an email from TPPR.com and their daily deal is 10 mosquito repellent bracelets for $15.

Might just have to scoop this one up and give them a try!

I have tried these bracelets, along with the mosquito patch, vitamin B, etc, etc. None of it worked except for DEET. Happy you all had better luck!
