Pacsafe Anti-Theft Bag protector
Pacsafe Anti-Theft Bag protector
Has anyone used this product? Its a steel mesh bag protector with a lock. You use it to wrap around a backpack or bag, then cinch it closed and use the cable to secure it to something immovable. There are several sizes and it looks like it might be a good way to secure things at the beach since you can cover up your beach bag. We take our valuables (credit card, money, car key) in a waterpack and otter box when we go snorkeling or get in the water to hang out. However, what we leave on the beach has value to us - prescription sunglasses, and a special anti-nausea device (sort of looks like a watch). We normally have left those items, plus the usual hats, shoes, etc on the beach when we go in. We would really hate to lose those 2 items to a "casual" thief. With the recent reports of thefts on some of the beaches, we are now thinking about getting some type of locking bag and I saw this steel mesh covering device. Any thoughts are welcome.

B&J, that mesh looks like it's big enough that someone could slip their hand right through it and unzip the backpack and reach in and take whatever they wanted. It might save the backpack, but it doesn't look like the contents would really be that safe.
inuny, Otterboxes come in all shapes & sizes. Here's their website: http://www.otterbox.com/on/demandware.s ... TAoddUSKWw
I have the one Minde recommended and it works great. I got it in bright yellow so it would be easy to see floating on the water if it somehow gets away from me while snorkeling.

Big fan of the PacSafe...we use this one for cell phones, wallets, iPods, jewelry (though we try to leave as much of this stuff as we can at home)...

We either fasten it to the metal bar under the car seat or to the base of a tree.
It's worth it for us for no other reason than it gives us a little peace of mind while we're out snorkeling because as you mentioned, we've added a deterrent for the "casual thief."
Obviously, if someone wants it bad enough and they're willing to go to extremes, not much you can do.
BTW, a good tip I picked up on this forum...get a decent rubber band, pinch one end of it and poke it through the little hole in the key that goes to the lock (makes a small hole out of one side of the band), then poke the rest of the rubber band through that small hole, tighten it and put it on your wrist.

It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
We bought the large one and used it a couple times when we were on long snorkels. It gave us a piece of mind. Yes someone could cut the cable but we hoped it would discourage the average thief. We felt the good camera was safe because could not come through holes in pack n safe.We did not leave wallet or keys in the bag.
inuny, do you know what model pac safe you use, I have a samll camera, wallet and 2 kindles I'd like to put inside?inuny wrote:I've used the pac safe-I put the car key, wallet, phone in it and attach it to a tree limb. The one I use is big enough for a kindle.
