Low season

Post by loverotties »

We are headed to SJ the end of Sept. into Oct. to celebrate my birthday & 25th anniversary . We have only visited SJ 1 times while renting a villa in St. Thomas . Will most restaurants & bars be open in Oct. for low season ?

Has anyone ever used VRBO before to rent a villa ? We have been looking at villa's for weeks still trying to decide  !!!

Since finding this wonderful site we have now decided to rent our Jeep on St. Thomas & take it over on the car ferry & when we return to St. Thomas we will already have it & can drive to our B & B !!!

I'm sure I will have many more :?: :?: till Sept. for you regulars . Thanks for all the great info to us newbies :!:

I think you may find many businesses closed down during Sept and Oct. We normally travel to STJ the first few weeks of November and many businesses are just reopening after the off season. I believe that there is a list each year of businesses that close down during that time. You can either do a search or hopefully someone who knows how to find it will pipe up. Just realize that is the rainy season and there is the chance for hurricanes so you might want to check out trip insurance.

You will see the most closings in September. You will see some closings as early as August and the re openings through October. So yes, may restaurants will be closed. A handful of retail shops will close, and almost everyone has reduced hours (with the exception of grocery stores).

There is some attempt to stagger closings :) and there will always be some restaurants that are open. Ruth from St. John Spice keeps a nice list of those she can get a hold of. You will have to check her list closer to August to get a better idea. And don't forget to stop in her shop and bring home some goodies! She has lots of great souvenirs and goodies for friends back home. And make sure you get some Cruz Bay Grill Rub, their signature spice. It's great on everything :)
