Quick Coral Bay Trip Report

Post by mark & susan »

We spent 10 great nights at Bayview Villa off Ajax Peak Road, our fourth trip to this simple but great villa.

We did not take many pictures this trip but we try to do different things each visit and wanted to pass along some quick thoughts. Some of the places we went were as a direct result of reading trip reports on this board so paying our experience forward in a way.

Food and Beverages

Again the highlight was dinner at the bar at Zozo’s. It was great. The bartender and I discussed if he in fact had the absolute best job on STJ, serving 6-7 couples at the bar, turning the “chairs” at least once per night…do the math. Food was great as usual, view was awesome.

The other highlight was Sunday brunch at Café Concordia – the food was really top notch, and the music (light jazz) was perfect.

Other new experiences/positives included:

Pizza at Café Roma (beat Donkey Diner pizza by a mile)
Happy Hour at High Tide
Coca-Cola Wings at Happy Hour at Spyglass
Candi’s BBQ (sorry – beats Uncle Joe’s)

Old favorites included Lime Inn, Skinny’s, Shipwreck, Miss Lucy’s, Sam and Jacks.

Travel/Frozen Food

Direct from IAD both ways – wow direct is great. Took the Polar Bear and can report that you CAN get ice cream to STJ frozen. I included the ice cream as a lark – just to see what happened. All the frozen food was rock hard – the ice cream was softer but still frozen. This after stopping for rental car, Cost U Less, Marina Market, Candi’s before the villa.

Parking/Jeep Rental

Rented from Discount on STT (last year Dependable/STT). Liked the price, the service and the jeep. The location was also very easy to deal with. We will use them again.

When not using Penn’s (our STJ fav) we typically use Slim Man’s parking. This trip we did that once but we also used the new free lot by the car ferry. I actually timed the walk from the car to Woody’s – 3 minutes to save $10, and I think worth it.

Music

Tried to go someplace with music each night. Attempted to follow Lauren around the island – she is great (and she often plays with Bo (see Concordia Bruch)

8 Tuff Miles

My inaugural run in this race – in fact in ANY race. Goal was midpoint in my age bracket (50-54) which is about 1:30. Finished in 1:26 so very happy. It was a great race.

Woke up race morning to find keys locked in Jeep – I’m convinced a random signal from a neighboring villa Jeep caused it.javascript:emoticon('') Was not going to miss the race so hitched a ride to town, also hitched a ride after race back up to Ajax Peak road. Fun to talk to the people each way – we always enjoy picking up people when we are there – this time the tables were turned..

The race was great – so much fun – went to the awards ceremony after which was well done.

Beaches

We were kind of duds this trip, alternating between the villa, Francis, Miss Lucy’s Beach and our favorite Little Lamshure. We more into reading than snorkeling this time and the peace and quiet of Lamshure meets our needs.

We had a great trip – good weather with only a few sprinkles. Can’t wait to return!

Congrats on running 8Tuff Miles!
Did you find the Costuless stop worthwhile? For variety, quality and price? I often recommend shopping there if people rent a car in STT and rarely hear back if it was worth the effort - Thanks.

I can't say for sure whose recommendation first prompted us to go there, but we certainly feel that it a worthwhile stop, and it's become part of our arrival day routine.

In case it was you, thanks!

Like Augie it has just become part of the routine - it is on the way. In that there were only 2 of us we did not get much there, case of water, case of G2, beer, wine, chips etc.

Then to Marina Market for a few items.

We used to do the Christopher Taxi thing and regular ferry but I like the control aspect of driving to Red Hook, stopping where you want, and most of all drinking a beer on the car ferry! (See Marina Market stop)

(Re beaches on original post - not Miss Lucy's beach of course but Vie's)

Were you able to get the Jeep unlocked yourself or did you have to call Discount for help?
