More Coral Bay ?'s: Food
What is this Ponzu Tuna I hear about at Aqua Bistro?
Is Donkey Diner the only spot for breakfast?
How do I get to Josephines and what will I find there?
My goodness, I am a newbie!

I don't know... sorryXislandgirl wrote:What is this Ponzu Tuna I hear about at Aqua Bistro?
Breakfast is served at Maho Pavilion, beautiful view. Also, Sunday Brunch at Miss Lucy's and Concordia Cafe. Not sure if breakfast is served on other mornings at Concordia, but the view over Salt Pond is lovely.Xislandgirl wrote:Is Donkey Diner the only spot for breakfast?
Turn on King Hill Road, drive past the Love City Mini Market, and continue about a mile. It's on your left (after you pass the sign that says "Tourist Information - You're Lost")Xislandgirl wrote:How do I get to Josephines and what will I find there?
Ponzu Tuna - I am ABSOLUTELY NOT a foodie, but Larry from the Tourist Trap suggested I try this at Aqua Bistro so I did. It was amazing... One of the best meals I have ever had. I wish I could describe everything on the plate, but I don't remember. I do remember a cold noodle salad under the Tuna, some Wasabi sauce, and the ponzu sauce is based on soy sauce but it has some citrus flavors also - again I am not a foodie! I think it is a special - only available certain nights of the week.
They also have fried pork chops and mashed potatoes occasionally...TrvlKaren highly recommends that meal.
Sorry the picture is blurry, but it is the only one I have...

You have got to go and meet Josephine!
She calls herself an "agricultural engineer", and is easily one of the most refreshingly interesting person I've ever met. Great greens and veggies, too. You'll be happy to have met her!
Have had the tuna as well as shark (mako, I think...?) at AB. Both were astounding. That's been my favorite bar on the island for some time now. Awesome vibe, and the coming & going of tourists & locals is as breezy as the warm afternoon into evening.I wish I could work there, honestly.
Don't forget to hit Shipwreck, too! Love, love, love the conch fritters, and had an incredible mussels & pasta dish there last trip.
Wish I was there to meet up with you!
Smiles-
MJ

Donkey Diner has GREAT breakfast.
Cafe Concordia was amazing too. They have a much better view and the day we were there it was Sunday brunch and they had live music. Mo was our server there - she is great and you'll also find her at Larry's and also, Donkey
We kept joking that we were following her the two weeks we were there.

XislandGgrl, if you go on a friday night to AB make your reservations during the week do not wait until friday or you may not get one. They fill up very quick even on the off season. You will definately enjoy the food. They have a great chef from New England named MJ and everything he puts together is fantastic.
Ponzu tuna is only on Friday evenings - do make your reservations when you arrive
LOVE ponzu tuna, hubby LOVES the chicken piccata and his onion rings are the best I have had anywhere (here or in the States) - oh and his chowder to die for
Clean Plates is next to Donkey Diner in Sputniks - great breakfasts and local dinners at a reasonable price.

We eased into it! Prior to arriving, I had made dinner reservations (I am a planner) alternating between Cruz Bay (to get our town fix) and Coral Bay. It worked perfectly, we enjoyed the best of both. For our "town" dinners, we made sure to leave early enough to enjoy the drive out on North Shore Road and still have enough time to stroll around before dinner.Xislandgirl wrote:I guess there IS life in Coral Bay!
We will likely return to the same house next year, we liked the location that much.

Just fyi, went there for our first time today, very cool place. But, the sign doesn't say Josephines, I think it said Coral Bay Organic Nursery or something like that. Its a very large nursery with flowers, bushes, all kinds of stuff. They grow the vegetables themselves in the back. Can't believe we've never gone there before!

Ponzu Tuna is awesome. Definitely make reservations.
Donkey Diner also does Pizza on Wednesday and Fridays. Call ahead - seriously. We didn't in November and got the last half of pizza - and it was only 6pm. Calzones are good, too.
We've stayed in Coral Bay the last couple of times. But, I need my Cruz Bay fix, so we added on a few extra days at Grande Bay.
Enjoy.
