Booking Flight

Post by Timo »

Planning a trip to STJ in November and getting a bit nervous with the rising fuel costs going on that I really need to book my flights now. Leaving from Newark (11/10-11/17)and most of what I've found so far is in the $475-$500 range. Should I wait a bit more for some kind of deal to be had or book now, my worry is that fuel prices will just keep going up and up and up!!! What is the best site to go onto in order to get the best deal? I've been using Expedia in most of my searches. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Been almost 10 years since our last trip to STJ and can't wait!!!!!

I would wait until JetBlue releases its fares for November. I find them to be teh cheapest.

Try the flight predictor at Bing Travel.
You may not be able to get a prediction in Nov as that may be too far out but they've been spot on!
Prices seem to be rising now for travel this summer so you may want to wait a bit for fall travel...even with fuel prices going up, I don't think it will be that drastic and Jetblue so far has the best prices.
Good Luck!

American Airlines from JFK direct is $388 for those dates
Sawed that board three times and it is still too short...

I'm not sold on the Bing predictor. I started watching it back in early October for my upcoming trip and it kept telling me with very high confidence that prices would drop. They kept creeping up, so I pulled the trigger in early November. Shortly after, the prices went up by 40% and have stayed there. All the while, Bing still held to its guns that prices would drop. In fact it is still saying that today, 17 days out, but flights are $1050 minimum and still rising.

Not saying it doesn't work, but I wouldn't make any decisions based on it.

I just spent 957.00pp round trip from Orange County California to St.Thomas in July on American. This is more than we spend to go to Europe in the summer. NUTS

Thanks for all the helpful flight info. Just booked our November flight plans to STJ; $408 RT Non Stop with American from JFK. Bit a drive from our home on Jersey shore to JFK but for that price round trip, I had to pull the trigger. 8 months and counting!!

Congrats! Sounds like a pretty decent rate...we fly from Dallas to STT thru Miami and about the cheapest we've ever done it is $650 RT. Interestingly, I just purchased tickets for our June trip in early February. And when I first started looking at fares back in December and January, the price was nearly $400 more for the same tickets.

I don't know why the tickets were so much more at that time or what caused the prices to drop, but I certainly no longer believe that the farther out you purchase plane tickets necessarily means you'll get the best price.

Sidenote...for future bookings, I'm also a big fan of going on odd days like Tuesday to Tuesday if you can swing it. That has really saved us a ton of money the last few years.
It’s not about yesterday or tomorrow...It’s about today, for come what may – Sun, rain, or hurricane – we've only time for a smile, and none for sorrow
