Do you prefer group trips or a solo couple trip?
Husband and I have always taken group trips to the islands..We are thinking about taking our 1st trip with it being just the two of us...For those of you that have done both, which do you prefer? I am looking forward to having quality time just the two of us...Pros/Cons?

We have done and do both. Last year our grown children joined us with their friends and we enjoyed showing them the island, this year it is just the two of us.
We usually go for two weeks ( I know we are lucky) and our best friends share their villa with us for the second week.
Both ways have their allure. But a lot can be said for being on your own, just the two of you.

I think the key with our group is we know how to be together AND apart.
Some of us lived together back in the day so any co-habitation issues were resolved 17+ years ago.
The only con to a couple-only trip might be a higher lodging expense since you don't have others to split the cost of a villa.

That is a VERY individual thing. We know a couple who wont go ANYWHERE unless they have somebody else to go with, and we think that is almost a bit odd.
Maybe that is because we have tried going with others and did not like it even though we like to think that we can get along with most folks.
And maybe that is the issue - we don't want to have to be put into too many conciliatory positions on vacation. And vacation time is way too valuable to spend any time wheel spinning.
Maybe we will try it again when our college age daughter is older and cant or doesn't want to go with us anymore
She gets real mad now when we tease that we will go back to the islands without her when she is tied up with school.

We have always gone away with our son - now 24. One time we took our nephew too. We always have a great time- sometimes our son stays at the villa with his trusty computer and deck time - mostly he comes with us on our snorkeling & hiking adventures.
We wouldn't be opposed to going with a group - but the opportunity just hasn't come up.

Ha! We had a trip with the ILs (not to STJ) that I have tried to forget ever since.deejayjay wrote: Sometimes think it would be fun taking some of our relatives with us. Then we wait a moment and the thought passes. Whew. . . that was close.
There are some couples that have expressed an interest in travelling to STJ with us that I absolutely will even consider a trip.
We've done multiple trips with just the two of us. One trip with our son and 1 other couple. One Trip with just one other couple. And, one trip with 2 other couples.
No doubt for us that alone or with only 1 other couple is best. While we dearly love the 2 couples we went with, it's just too much trouble to keep everyone happy (I was the trip organizer and served as host).
We were brilliant on our last trip. We came down on Wednesday and our one other couple joined us on Saturday. That way we had 3 nights and 2 full days to ourselves before having the group together. Having company was great to share stories, cooking, bartending, and cleaning the rest of the week!

Our first 3 we were alone..the last 2 we had family (kids) & my mom with us..This Yr we are going alone...just us...I was glad my kids got to see the Island...although the younger ones weren't as impressed and the older son was..It just seems to loose some of the magic when you are trying to orchestrate everyone...god help if I had a whiner..I dont know what Id do..however I wouldnt be opposed to taking trips with others...but Id make sure everyone had their own jeep and more or less everyone just share the villa at night..otherwise each cpl is on their own...
