Final Day Final Thoughts

Post by pswlrw »

Saturday dawns sunny and hot. Time for us to go. Have my final cup of coffee in the pool and it's time to go. Get one group off to the people ferry and meet up with my brother and his girlfriend and they come on the car barge with us to St. Thomas and we go to Molly Malone's for a final lunch. Great, fresh pina coladas, served in the pineapple!! Food was really good here and we had some final family bonding.

Head to the airport and of course, I get us a little lost going over the mountain but we get there and the customs line snakes twice around the entire length of the airport!! We get checked in and return the car and then I remember someone on this wonderful forum posting about using a porter. I see one and he loads up our luggage and brings us in the back way, past the entire line!! Thanks so much to whomever posted that tip! Uneventful trip home.

Favorite things:

Our boat day with Captain Kevin on Born to Rhumb - definitely worth the wait!

Spending an hour at Sandy Spit.

Dinner at Zozo's and Ocean Grill.

Hearing my cousin say he will never go anywhere else for a beach vacation.

Allowing the magic of St. John and the love of family and friends to soothe your soul.

My T Shirt from Jost Van Dyke that says: "Life is not the amount of breath your breathe, it's the moments that take your breath away".

Here's a link to all my pictures (the good, the bad and the ugly - you can ignore the first 4 :o )

Paula,

Great trip report & photos!

You are putting us to shame. Can't believe how you were able to get your report WITH PHOTOS done so quickly upon your return.

I probably won't get started til this weekend!

You sound like you had a wonderful time - I am so happy for you. So glad that we got to share a quick "hello".

Can't believe all the "bleepin'" downpours at night. It was nuts! So sad that we got "rained out" of our Beach Bar gathering on Monday night.

Oh well - as the saying goes - "A rainy day on vacation beats a sunny day at work!" and that sure is true.

Take care and again, thank you for the wonderful trip report!

Thanks for the trip report and the pictures. My wife and I leave in 12 hours, and your pictures made us want to leave right now.

Paula,

I'll be at Golden Dragon in a month!! :D I would like to know your opinion of the villa. Is the inside of the villa as nice as the pictures on Vacation Vistas web site? And...where did you find that Tshirt on JVD? We may take a day trip over there. :?

Thanks

Thanks for sharing! The villa looks really nice. It looks like you all had a great time. When are you heading back?

Question about the use of a porter at the airport:

Do you get to jump line at customs and security??

I have seen people use the porter and get to check-in quickly, but does this carry thru the entire process? What about folks who just take carry on? How can you use a porter if you only have a couple of puny bags that you're not going to check? I would do just about anything, to avoid that hot, long, miserable TSA line! :x

Paula, great report and pics. Thanks for all of your effort.
By the way, the picture of the "monster house" on Peter Bay... is it just me, or does that thing look like a festering zit, or what?

Thanks everyone. It was great reliving the trip through the reports!

Ron, about Golden Dragon. Yes, the inside is exactly like the pictures on the website - just beautiful. My cousin and I who shared a bedroom kept joking that we were in the world's most romantic bedroom/bathroom ... with each other  The villa is beautifully decorated and chocked full of buddahs and such. Lisa at Vacation Vistas was wonderful to deal with. We had a problem with the grill hose (it was kinked and took forever to get going the first night). She had someone there the next day. Then the washer broke and she had a guy there the same day to fix it. Note: the pool light is broken. I reported it to Lisa so it may be fixed by the time you are there. The light switch for it is in the main house near the tv. Any questions, just feel free to ask.

The porter takes you right out of the line, through a back hallway straight to a customs guy (who was super nice, by the way). Then we got into a security line which wasn't all that long.
