Finally Tried Mangrove Snorkeling

Post by cindygad »

Thanks to all of you who gave advice on mangrove snorkeling. It was a sunny day so we decided to give it a try. We found the entry.

I think I can do this the entry looks easy.

ok this is going to be fun

All of a sudden everything closed in on me and I felt like I couldn't breath. Everything was just to shallow and I jumped on my poor husbands back. I caught my breath and just went out to deeper water.

is my cup of tea. My husband however loved it!

Fabulous pictures! I haven't snorkeled the mangroves in many years, but your pics have reminded me that I have to make it a priority next trip - which is this coming April! Thanks!

Great photos! I snorkeled in the Mangroves on STT and it was very cool... we're planning to do it on STJ next trip in March.

I know what you mean (I think) about the shallow water... First time we snorkeled @ Lameshur, I was in very shallow water just above a TON of sea urchins... It freaked me out - the feeling of being so close above, yet not able to stand up put me into a panic and I smacked my hand on one (sorry Mr. Urchin!!!) & got quite a few painful splinters which my husband got out except for one that stayed imbedded in my finger for over months - it eventually dissolved. Some souvenir.
Peace,

Lisa

I smorkeled the mangroves in the FL Keys and found it to be great! Better than I thought. There were tons of lobsters and fish. The coral that grows on the roots is cool too. I never thought of doing it in STJ but that is something to think about.
I was worried that a saltwater crocodile would show up. It was difficult to not scrape on things and to take pictures but it was something new.

I really like the mangrove snorkeling. This is one of my favorite photos I took at Princess: a starfish eating a sea cucumber:

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
